Beatrice was a magnet to young people. Young people just fell in love with her. One day, she met Annette. Annette had a child out of wedlock as a teenager and as a result, her own Mother rejected her. Annette asked Beatrice if she could call her Mom and she told her it was okay. Their friendship seemed to blossom. Everything was going great until one day Beatrice fell ill and was no longer able to talk to Annette. Annette became offended and stop calling. Apparently Beatrice was fulfilling some kind of need in Annette’s life. Beatrice did all she could for as long as she could, she served God by helping her neighbor. This reminds me of the story of the Good Samaritan.
The poor man was robbed and left to the side of the road. Two religious men passed by but did not help him, then the Samaritan took care of him and even put him up at the local Inn. The Samaritan showed what love is really all about, it’s about sacrifice and work, like Beatrice did for Annette.
Oftentimes we comment that those were the good old days. When we used to…. You fill in the blank. Then the person is suddenly gone and we wish we could go back and say or do it differently. Well today is the tomorrow you thought about yesterday.
James 4:13-14 Go to now, ye that say, to day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain, whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth away.
Application: Do you ever feel like the good old days are behind you? I think everyone does sometimes. What can you do or say to love and serve others today? That way you can look back on today and truly say,” those were the good old days”
Prayer: LORD help me to remember that today is all we really have, let me use it wisely. Amen
