I remember my classmate in college (Bernadette Artugue). She delivered a speech in our communication arts class, and the 1st line was "Why are we born if we are only destined to die".
I did not really listen to her speech, because just the 1st line struck me and it made me think very deeply.
In life, probably the most difficult question starts with "why?", because it multiplies and can extend to infinity. Even in Nursing, we were taught not to use why in communicating to a suicidal person, because it magnifies stress. Certainly, because when I was a kid, I asked someone why some of my feces float and some sink in water. Then he said, because some are light and some are heavy. And I kept asking why, until he got mad.
So I ask you, why do you work? To earn money? Why earn money? To buy the things you want and need? Why not just buy the things that you need then? To enjoy the things that you want?
What do you want? A delicious food? Why would you buy one when it is only destined to turn into feces? To enjoy it right?
We are born to enjoy life. Enjoying life does not mean enjoying luxurious food gadgets and everything.
Before I wrote this, I looked at the night sky and there were so many stars. The night inspires me so much, because it is quiet and there's no more distractions from other people. The simple admiration of a simple, innate thing already means enjoying life.
It is funny that the media keeps reporting about the old games (sungka, tumbang preso, etc) are becoming obsolete nowadays. I still see some people playing these games, here in our area. However, I have not seen anyone playing an ancient game. It is played by tracing the positions of stars and making shapes out of it, constellations. If there is a game that is obsolete, it is definitely this game. When was the last time you gazed at the stars and say to yourself "God has really organized everything from spinning electrons to spinning galaxies." Enjoy your life!
