[Lights turn off. After a few minutes stage lights are turned on and one person can be seen standing on the left side of the stage. It can be a girl or a boy; it does not matter. For several moments the person says nothing, but stares out to the audience]
Character 1: You cannot see me. You probably think that you can, but I am invisible. I do not exist. I cannot be seen, or touched, or heard. I am invisible and this stage is empty. You’re eyes are fooling you and you have no right to sit here and think to yourselves that you are seeing me. You aren’t. I am invisible.
[Pause. Character one walks around the stage, pacing back and forth. He then comes to the right of the stage.]
Character 1: You cannot see me. You may say that you can, but I am invisible. I do not exist. I cannot be seen, or touched, or heard. I am invisible and this stage is empty. You’re eyes are fooling you and you have no right to sit here and say to yourselves that you are seeing me. You aren’t. I am invisible.
[Pause. Character one paces back and forth on the stage. He soon comes to stand center stage.]
Character 1: You cannot see me. You may believe that you can, but I am invisible. I do not exist. I cannot be seen, or touched or heard. I am invisible and this stage is empty. You’re eyes are fooling you and you have no right to sit here while you believe that you are seeing me. You aren’t. I am invisible.
[Pause. Character one stands still center stage. A second character comes to stand behind him.]
Character: You can throw your words at me. You can beat me with your hatred. You can claw your way through me and reach to steal my heart. You can paint pictures of me, in whatever way you deem necessarily. But I’m invisible. You do not know me and all you will ever see is a facade.
Character 2: I see you. And I see your pain.
Character 1: In this world that you cannot enter I will stay. Every true part of me I will keep here and all you will ever know is a mask I’ve built to fool you. You can torment the mask all you want, I will never feel the pain. I am invisible.
Character 2 (moves forward three small steps): I see you. And I know that there is not a mask strong enough to shield you from pain.
Character 1: You cannot see me. You may think that you can, but I am invisible. I do not exist. I cannot be seen, or touched or heard. I am invisible and this stage is empty. You’re eyes are fooling you and you have no right to sit here while think that you are seeing me. You aren’t. I am invisible and your hatred cannot reach me.
Character 2: I see you and the pain you carry and I love you nonetheless. You are my child and I love you.
