Sinners live pretty much the way they want to nowadays. They put no limits on whatever they want to do. 'It it feels good, do it,' is their motto. A sinner has no understanding of spiritual things like Christian people do. They don't have the life of God in them and are ignorant of the ways of God. They are blind in their spirits. It's all darkness to them when it comes to the things of God.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind; having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart. Ephesians 4:17-18.This is normal for people that don't know God. We don't expect them to be any other way. Now, I know there are some people that have never been born-again that are decent folks and don't live a bad life. But I'm talking about the majority of sinners.
Paul wrote here in Ephesians to Christians and told them to not walk like the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their minds. This must mean that a Christian can walk like that. They will walk that way if they don't renew their mind to the word of God.I've seen Christians that live this way and I've wondered why they did. I realized why when I read this scripture in Ephesians. If they don't read the bible and pray everyday they will continue to live the way they did before they got saved. Your mind has to be renewed to the word of God for you to live right.
Our relationship with the Lord is up to each one of us individually. Of course we need to be in a good church where they preach and teach the word, but that's only a few hours a week. Our main Christian living is outside the church and we are responsible for our life, not the church or the Pastor. WE are responsible to get our mind renewed to the word and then put off the old sin nature and put on the new man, which is after God. It's up to each of us to do this. WE do it, not God or anyone else.
I can hear some of you saying, "I can't do that, I've got too many things to do". "There are the kids to take care of, and I've got a job to go to". "How can I ever do that"? I understand what you're saying. I've been in that position and I know it's hard. There is not a harder job on earth than being a mother. I raised three boys, so I do know.
So let me help you with this by giving you a couple of examples of how Jesus did it. He is our example to follow, isn't he? When he was here and in his ministry, he traveled everyday and preached and slept out under the stars a lot. Don't you know he was tired to? How did he find time to spend with the Father? He was moving all day long and had a crowd around him every place he went. They even followed him into the mountains or wherever he was at. Look at Luke 6:12. This scripture says he went out into a mountain and prayed all night to God. I can hear you now. "I can't do that and go to work the next day". Let me beg your pardon here. If you prayed all night to God you'd have more strength and energy than if you had slept all night. This is not something Jesus did all the time and it is not something you will do all the time either.
The Spirit will lead you to do this if you need to and will make up for any sleep you lose. But this is one way Jesus found time. Another way Jesus found time to spend with the Father is in Mark 1:35. He got up a long time before daylight, and went out and found a solitary place and prayed. A solitary place is where no one else is and you're totally alone. We have to have that quiet place with no distractions in order to have quality time with God and to hear from him and get direction for our life. This isn't easy either. It's hard to get up early in the morning while everyone else is still sleeping. No one feels like praying early in the morning. But if that's the only time you can find, then you may have to do that.
This takes discipline and persistence. We have to make time and find a place to spend time with the Lord in order to come out from the world's way of living and began living the way God tells us to in his word. This is the only way to accomplish that. We have to find time to read and study the word and pray everyday or we will continue to walk in the vanity of our minds like sinners do. It is a daily life we live for God, not once a week on Sunday. So ask yourself, "what have I done with my mind"? " Have I renewed it according to the word"? What ever the answer is, I pray that you will do what you need to do in this area and walk God's way and not like the world.
