God, so many people think that my life was easy;
Being born and raised in the church.
I think it's time to tell them how I really was,
And what lead me to the cross!
Skipping class and fighting in middle school;
Hanging out with the wrong friends.
Trying to be cool and fit in,
I chose to date at a very young age.
Eating Oatmeal Creme pies and drinking grape juice;
During Holy Communion.
Sitting on the back row in the church,
Finding many people to laugh and pick on!
Acting like I had the Holy Ghost,
Falling out and imitating tongues in church.
Getting beatings by my dad while the sermon was going forth,
I couldn't wait for church to be over;
Had me skipping church service and going to the cornerstore!
At the age of 16, I gave my heart to Jesus Christ,
You see, I got tired of playing church.
I got tired of getting in trouble for the mistakes my "so-called" friends made.
I got tired of being hurt and seeing the kids in my church get hurt.
I got tired of feeling empty and hearing, "you all need to get saved."
Even in church, I always wondered what being "saved" meant,
So, at a Youth Revival, I came up for prayer.
The Youth Minister that night told me I had a special gift;
He told me that God wanted to use me.
He told me that God wanted to shape my life,
He wanted to turn me around, give me new friends!
I laughed, cried, and said "yeah right"!
Not believing this was possible.
I started taking bubble gum sticks;
Pretending like I'm a smoker.
As a teenager, I really thought smoking was cool.
The smokers had girlfriends and plenty of friends to hang with.
I had to see drug dealers and smokers get killed, in order to stop pretending!
When I turned 15, I caught the "butterflies",
Peeking in the Ladies bathroom, standing outside of the door.
I was "HOT" in my pants, I desparately wanted attention.
I felt I wasn't a man unless I had a cutie pie to wrap in my arms.
One night, while laying in bed,
I thought long and hard about what the Youth Minister said.
This is what lead me to the cross!
I told God, "if you just change me, I'll get to know You".
Guess what? He changed me!
Those urges I had as a teenager begin to leave.
I started taking church seriously.
I gave up my friends and stayed to myself,
It took a whole year for God to establish good friends in my life!
You see, I know the feeling of loneliness!
God is able to lead you to the cross,
You'll gain the same very things you thought were lost!
When you're hopeless and in despair,
God will wrap His arms around You and show you He cares!
God showed me He was a gentlemen.
I had to open my heart to Him,
He's not a man who forces, but allows you to choose.
Would you choose Him today?
He can turn your frown to a smile,
He can make your gray skies turn blue,
There's nothing to hard for Him to do!
I tried Jesus and I know,
I want you to try Him too!
I'll be praying for you, as well as others,
When you come unto Him, all the angels in Heaven rejoice!
God throws a celebration, on your behalf, in Heaven!
That's just how much he loves you!
