Scripture: Psalm 42: 5, 6 “Why are you downcast o my soul? Why are you disturbed with me? Put your hope in God for I will praise him, my Saviour and my God.”
You may feel overwhelm by the numerous things you need to do today. It seems like there are so many things that call for my attention. Do you feel unable to meet some of my obligations resulting in feelings of inadequacy? I identify with your struggles. For example, I am concerned about a family member who has been making wrong choices. Feelings of discouragement and frustration are trying to overwhelm me.
In life there are many unanswered questions, which push us to become anxious when we start asking “What if...? But today let us commit ourselves silence the “what ifs” and allay every anxiety. Instead let us focus on who God is, for example, God is love, God is good, God is faithful, God is our provider. Indeed, God is my banner; he lifts up a standard when the enemy tries to destroy us.
Our response then should be to praise God and glorify his name. We need to keep our focus on the mighty God who has control over all our situations. We must refuse to concentrate on our situations, the things we need to do, and our inadequacies. When we glorify God, we switch the script and place God at the forefront of our lives where we see him in his might, power and majesty. He is the Lord of our lives and all things are possible with him.
When God is magnified in our lives, the challenges that try to stop our progress diminish in the “light of his glory and grace.” No situation is insurmountable with God; “for nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). Let us join with the writer of the Psalm and declare “when I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God whose word I praise, in God I trust ...” (Psalm 56:3-4):
Prayer: “Our Father, we thank you for the great love that you have for us, the love that you are extending us in an awesome way right now. Today, we receive you love, encouragement and grace in a fresh way. You magnified in our lives. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen”.
Today, we listen keenly to Jesus’ assurance “Let not your heart be troubled” (John 14:1); it’s another day in Jesus' presence!
