Where I work, there's this man who always comes up to me and says, "You're a good man, Jim!"
My response is,” well, I try to be."
The man always tells me that I never complain about the work that is offer to me, even when no one else will do it; I just get in there and do it. I have always tried to please those who are important to me, whether it will be my supervisor at work, to parents, siblings, to my wife and son.
I love my job. It's been said that this was a job I been training for all my life. When a new job comes up for bid on a different shift, I have been offer bribes to try to lure me away, my reputation goes before me, when there’s job to be done, get Jim, he'll do it. What's a man to do? (At this point heads swells really, really, big, wife sees big headed husband, quickly removes safety pin, and pops husband head as husband goes flying around the room till head returns to normal size, and humility is restored.)
This job is challenging. I move locomotives and the hours of playing with my model railroad have helped quite a bit. My work ethic is get in, get the job done, glorification comes later. The important thing is to get the job done.
I was thinking the other day over the comment that my friend says to me everyday. Then I wonder, is Christ telling us this everyday? I mean when we're in there doing our job for the Kingdom, is our Father whispering to us in our ear, "keep it up, you're doing fine" or "hang in there kid, you're doing great!" well, maybe he won't say "kid" but He probably will use a term of endearment.
What I'm asking here is: That while we in the "family" business, spreading the gospel, are we getting in there and getting our hands dirty and enjoying the pleasure of His smile on us or are we just buying time till our pension kicks in?
Recently, I have been venturing out away from my comfort zone; challenge my wits as it were, to question people’s creeds and reason for their faith in anything except God. I have been lambasted, called a fool, and told that their way is far better, because my Loving Father, whom by the way, has created all the wars, pestilence, and heartbreak the world has ever known. He has killed innocent children for His pleasure and has order the mass destruction of His chosen people countless of times. He has worked hand in hand with some of the worst butchers the world has ever known, and all of these statements are lies. The arrogance and ignorance of MAN! How dare we stand here and call God a murder, liar, or anything else that defames our Lord and God! May God be true and every man a liar. We brag on the wisdom we attain through observation and credit the findings to the creation not the Creator, who is blessed forever, Amen. We are so proud of ourselves when we win glory, or appreciation, as if we created the talent, that we fail to mention the Giver of those gifts. Yet, God still loves these people and will do anything to bring them into His fold.
We who hold a strict code of morality also have no room to brag either. If we are relying on our good works and think that's all there is, we miss the point. Remember: Obedience is better than sacrifice. We shouldn't do things to be noticed, but rather out of love, for He first loved us.
We as a family need to remember what the world is without God, because we were away from our Lord not too long ago, and it is still dying without knowing the real God. This world is so hungry for God that they are chomping at the bit, well; let's give it to them. Let's tell them of the gospel of Grace and warn them, that if they don't heed it they will face the Law, and they won't like the outcome of that. Don't worry about the glory, for in the end Jesus will get it and that all that matters. There will come a time for braggin'. It will take place in Heaven when we all can say, "HEY! WE MADE IT!!!
