Understanding the Verse
Part 11: Faith
Hebrews 11:1
(Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.)
What is Faith? I have asked myself that many times. You can’t see faith, you can’t smell faith, and you can’t touch faith. It’s hard for some of us to grasp what faith really is. In the segment of understanding the Verse, I will try my best to explain to you what I think faith is and how I see it.
It is hard to explain faith to people, it’s like you just have to know what it is. Every uses the phrase, “ You just have to have Faith.” How do you know that you have faith in something? Is faith like hope? I guess it is in a sense. You cannot control everything, or know how everything is going to go. You can to plan everything out for that day or that week or that month. How many times does it work out the way you want? Not much for me. You ever heard of the saying, “ Just take a leap of faith?” Look at the picture above, that little boy has faith and trust that his dad will catch him no matter what. You have to have that same faith in God. Times get hard, and times get tough. When you believe in God things can get worse because of the devil is more in your life now than you ever noticed before. Through your hard times, you have to have this invisible belief in your heart called faith. Let us look at the definition of faith. Faith is a complete trust or confidence in someone or something, or a strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. I think the first definition explains it better to me. Complete trust or confidence in someone. You have to have that relationship with God. When you’re having a bad day, and you just want someone to talk to you why not talk to God. I know you have your family and they will be there for you no matter, but so will God. Trust in him and have confidence that he will catch you when you fall and help you back up from the darkest of days.
God gives us the choice to have faith and love, but he also gives us the choice to walk around without help at all. I know we all seem to have faith when we fall or something happens to us. Somebody gets sick or has an accident and then we all of sudden ask God to watch over them or help them through it. Sometimes that’s the only time we have faith. I’ve seen some people have faith in trying to win the lottery. It’s ok to have faith when all those things happen, but it seems to be the only time we have faith. We need to have faith in God everyday of our lives, not just when something is wrong. We will never see God until the day we go for judgment, so we have to have faith in the words he has left behind. We have to have faith in that one day we will walk in his presence and feel his glory above all things.
In closing, have faith in what God has in store for you. I didn’t know what he had in store for me. I didn’t know I would be back living with my son, and my ex-wife/fiancé. I can tell you I didn’t even have faith that it was even possible. I can tell you now that I have faith in the direction he is leading me. I have faith that one day all these writings will touch someone, and I know that even though I may not know about, I will be blessed. Thank you for reading this segment, and I have faith that you will have a better idea in my point of view, what it means to have faith. May God bless you and your loved ones.
