THE DESTRUCTION PERFORMED BY THE BEAST
Henry Jaegers
It devoured and crushed, and it trampled down the remainder with is feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. (Daniel 7:7b)
In this verse we have a brief description of the great devastation that this beast will accomplish. Notice the words used to describe this.
1 .He will devour. This means that along with the massive destruction he will cause nothing significant to remain. Like a bear kills and later eats his prey so will this beast destroy and leave no trace of anything of value. This speaks of the extent of his destruction
2. He will crush. This means that there will be some things that remain, perhaps left as a memorial to his great power and a reminder of what may happen to those who oppose hm. As we vision the remains of the great civilizations of the past, we are reminded that what we now see is nothing like what they were before. What will be left behind are skeletons of their former greatness. This kingdom will be the final earthly kingdom and his destruction, as we shall see later, will be greater. This speaks of the manner of his destruction.
3. He will trample it down. This speaks of trampling so thoroughly that it will become like powder, unidentifiable from the ground to which it is crushed into. Later we are told that he will devour the whole earth, subdue and break it into pieces. This speaks of the completion of his destruction
In the New Testament we are given more specific information as to his identity. May the Lord enable us to watch and discern the signs of his appearing.
