Deception and deceit are the base for devil's functionality, for he always lies regarding everything and thus deceives the people.
The Treaty with the Gibeonites as described in Joshua chapter 9 is a perfect example of how the devil sneaks into a peace treaty with God's people with craftiness.
The following is one of the lies which the Gibeonites told to the people of Israel :-
"This bread of ours we took hot for our provision from our houses on the day we departed to come to you. But now look, it is dry and moldy. "
Joshua 9:12 (NKJV)
The devil tells us so many lies everyday and sneaks into our life having received our consent with deception.
The condition of our lives which stays in our families which resides in our respective countries and which is located in this God created world is such that many now are driven by the devil and have no place for God.
The extent to which the devil has sneaked into our life and drifted us away from God is enormous and thus we need to be very vigilant when shaking hands with everything and everyone that comes in our life.
Joshua was a great leader, a mighty warrior, yet this was one of the two gravest mistakes committed by him (the other was at the battle of Ai) when he failed to seek God's consent and judged by his own intellect and senses and concluded that the dry and moldy bread which the Gibeonites presented and the story behind it was actually true.
Is it not true that prayer is needed for even the smallest thing in our life and we cannot take anything so lightly in our life?
Let's be vigilant, for the devil seeks to destroy us, he is crafty and deceitful and we can know his evil schemes only through God.
Peter warns us to be vigilant in our life.
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
