'When Jesus called the twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases'
When we hear of healings and miracles around the world in places like Africa and elsewhere, do we actually know that what God is doing there he can do anywhere. We sometimes hear these stories and sit back and think 'wow' or 'I wish God could do that here'.
What we sometimes fail to understand is that this certainly can happen. Surely we know our God is not only a God who healed in Bible times. He is a God who was, is, and is to come. This means healings are not impossible in this day and age. In fact Jesus in Luke 9:1 gives us, his disciples, and authority over all demons and he freely gives us his spirit to heal the sick, make the blind see, make the deaf hear and you could go on forever. God can heal anything no matter how hard it seems.
All we have to do is simply ask for the Holy Spirit and he will give it to us. The bible promises it. We then have that same authority over all demons and illnesses that Jesus had. God does not want us to be passive in our faith, but rather he wants us to advance the kingdom of God through us. And the only way that is possible is through the Holy Spirit.
Also, each time in the gospel Jesus heals or drives out evil spirits, what happens? Many come to faith and put their trust in him.
All we have to do for the work of God to take place in our lives is to open our hearts to the lord and be obedient his calling on us. My point is not that all of us have to be healers for God, but rather we do not become passive in our faith as we think that God can't when he can. Nothing is impossible with God.
