Have you ever been invited to a formal dinner party where you look for your name tag at the table so you know where to sit? Pretty fancy indeed, and I suspect spiritually many of us are sitting in the wrong chair. The Bible says in Psalms 17 that “God provides food for those He loves . . . and the Lord shows you the path to life and make you glad by being near Him, sitting at His right hand side where you will always be joyful.” But I don’t feel worthy to sit near the head of the table. Maybe so but I encourage you to not be shy, for your Father in Heaven sacrificed His son Jesus so you’d have a place of honor.
Jesus said in Revelation 3:21 “To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Even the angels can’t claim this right because it says in Hebrews 1:13 “To which of the angels did God ever say, sit at My right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet? Are not all angels ministering angels sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Isn’t it about time you take your rightful place at God’s table, your rightful inheritance, where you can start feeling better about who you are because of what God has done?
Now if you’re one of those who’s a little out of sorts because you don’t feel welcome, let me be the one who invites you into the Kingdom of God. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, but through repentance from sin and asking God to forgive you, you too can sit in the place of honor with Jesus at His Father’s table. Oh, by the way, don’t worry if you’re not sure which fork to use, being proper isn’t the point, being present is.
