Why did Grandpa Die?
Dealing with Death
Written by Kathryn Stoll
Why did Grandpa die daddy?
I do not understand.
Oh baby, we will all die.
All life around us is getting older.
At one point when getting old,
Our body wears out.
Just like a baby is very small.
She can not do much on her own.
She can cry.
Was I a baby?
Was grandpa a baby?
Were you and mommy babies to?
Yes dear little one.
We were all babies when our lives began.
Grandpa was a baby.
5He grew up and learned new things everyday.
First he could roll over, and then he crawled.
One day he learned how to walk, then run, skip, and jump.
We all grow like that.
Then we are done growing.
Then we become old and can not do things the same.
But daddy, grandpa rode his bike everyday.
He ran his shoe shop.
He never missed Sunday dinner with us.
How could he die?
Dear, some things we can not understand.
Do you know how mommy’s flowers grow?
She plants seeds and waters them.
Then a green plant comes out of the seed.
One day we see pretty flowers on that plant.
Look at mommy’s flowers a few days later.
They are shrinking or falling off.
They are dying.
But they leave behind seeds.
New flowers can bloom again.
Grandpa may be gone,
But he left seeds to grow again.
That is us little one.
We keep his memory in us.
Just like the flowers will bloom next year.
