The Judas Kiss

Judas was one of the twelve original Apostles, who was the "keeper of the purse. And, either by becoming greedy or by divine direction, he is know by the infamous "kiss", in which Jesus was betrayed in the garden, just prior to His death.

I cannot imagine how one, who lived so close to our Lord for three years, could ever betray Him for a mere 30 pieces of silver. Yet, I must understand, this feat was apparently divinely designed, from the beginning of time. For you see, from the fall of man in Genesis 3:1-24, man needed a Savior to reunite mankind to Gods Salvation plan. And Judas being the treasure of the group, was the ideal candidate, to sell out our Lord, not realizing it was all a part of a divine plot.

"Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-" (Romans 5:12)-

Thus, the betrayal in the garden. This famous kiss was the start of God's full gospel plan which included the crucifixion, death, burial and the resurrection.

"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scripture, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures", 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

One thing we need to notice about Judas, he called Jesus teacher, he never called Jesus Lord or master as the other apostles did. This may be a hint how he saw Jesus. Jesus wanted to be known as Lord, not just teacher (Mk.12:37; Lk.20:42; Jn.9:36-38). While the other disciples wondered what kind of man Jesus was, a man that could calm the sea by a word, Judas accepted him only as Rabbi.

So, was Judas ever saved? According to the Gospel of Matthew, Judas repented his betrayal.
"I have sinned in betraying innocent blood” (Matthew 27:4)
He even attempted to return the silver to the chief priests, throwing the coins on the Temple floor. He then committed suicide by hanging himself.

I'll leave that answer up to God's divine plan. You see, history is history, and as far as we are concerned, we need only worry about our own salvation. Then, as followers of Christ, some day we will probably be able find out the answer to that, and many more age old questions, as we meet the Saints of Old in Glory Land.
