Not For Sale

A tree can be set on fire,
With a small flame of desire;
And the tongue is that kind of flame,
That could ignite what you proclaim.

It is an evil world we live,
People will take rather than give;
Much of our bodies the same way,
Filled with pride as they disobey.

The tongue contaminates this shell,
We call a body that we dwell;
It sets fire to our lives,
As a fire from hell that thrives.

We tame many creatures as pets,
But as the tongue always forgets;
Never to tame with no control,
A deadly poison for the soul.

With the tongue we praise our Lord,
Showing He is loved and adored;
But the same tongue will also curse,
Someone sounding really perverse.

You are in the image of God,
Who wants you to honor and laud;
Reflecting that every day,
As you keep trusting to obey.

Curses and praise from the same lips,
Guarantees that a person trips;
It pollutes the air to the ear,
That endures of what they may hear.

Thank you for this wonderful poem that warns us all about our words - particularly now when young people are so exposed to the vicious kind of language that is not pleasing to God.
