The growing thunder
Rages with increased intensity,
Winds buffet, howl and bluster
With fright’ning ferocity,
The darkened sky, the stormy cloud
Break in unceasing rain,
I seek to cling to footholds
But my clinging is in vain.
Tormented accusation
Bursts with fury on my ear
As the overpowering tempter
Draws nearer, nearer, near.....
The strength to fight evades me,
I drooping downcast lie
But then a gleam of sunlight
Shines just briefly from the sky.
‘Lord help’ I weakly whisper
From a heart bowed down and cowed, -
The mighty God, the Warrior,
Rides furiously on the cloud.
With swiftness mixed with mercy
He stoops low by my side
And lifts, with tender loving arms
His wayward, beaten child.
Reminders of His Promises,
Reminders of His Son,
Reminders of the battle fought,
Gloriously at Calvary won,
Reminders of His loving care
That’s never failed before,
Reminders of abundant grace
Poured from abundant store.
Reminders of His Promise
To save and make me whole,
I rest in Him,
My Warrior God,
As He restores my soul.
