…the Father, will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. For he lives with you now and later will be in you.
John 14: 16-17 (NLT)
As she made her rounds around the field hospital, Army First Lieutenant Holly McAllister, a nurse, noticed an 8 or 9 year old Iraqi child softly crying. A day earlier this little girl was injured when a suicide bomber blew up the bus she, family and friends were passengers. Everyone in the bus was killed except her. Nurse McAllister was unable to determine if the girl was hurting from pain or as a result of an emotional response to the past event.
Rather than search for an explanation, Nurse McAllister sat by the weeping child lifting her head tenderly then placing her scarred head in her lap. Though no words were exchanged, the little girl ceased crying and within a matter of minutes fell soundly asleep. It appeared that all the little girl required was a comforter to soothe her wounded heart.
Many of us do not have a loving person to comfort them during difficult periods, but we all have an unseen source of comfort available any time day or night, if we call out to Him. That comforter is God’s Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is there just as Jesus promised that we may rest and be renewed.
Prayer: Holy Spirit be with all of those who suffer. Produce for the lonely and hurting servants
who will be Your agents to bring hope and healing to those in need. Amen.
