“For God so loved the world _____ (fill in the blank with your name) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16 NKJ)” Like Father, like Son… “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us (1 John 3:16a NKJ)” Our Father gave His Son in order for us to be saved from sin. His Son gave His life as the supreme sacrifice. Will we follow their costly example?
Will others say of our lives, “Like Father, like Son, like child____ (fill in the blank with your name)?” John paved the path through this passage. “And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren (1 John 3:16 b NKJ).” Is it merely a coincidence that both of these passages penned by John are 3rd chapter and 16th verse? I think not; the Bible is God’s inspired word. Christ calls us to a life of sacrifice, not sentimentality that costs us nothing. Will I daily take up my cross and follow Jesus?

Excellent point you raise! Are our efforts truly sacrificial...or self-serving sentiment? This lenten season is quite the hour to ponder this, huh? Shalom
