“And the Lord restored the fortunes
of Job, when he had prayed for his
friends; and the Lord gave Job twice
as much as he had before” (Job 42:10)
Intercession can be defined as the act of praying for others. It is one of the requirements for those who desire to achieve success and greatness.
Man has become so self-conscious that he hardly remembers the needs of others when he presents his requests before God in prayer. We have become so passionate about our desires even to the detriment of others. This is one major reason why we remain stagnant since we do not pray for others.
Intercession made for other persons brings wealth, peace and prosperity. The scripture above states clearly that God restored the wealth of Job when he prayed for his friends. Until we pray for our friends, enemies and country, Nigeria, our blessings can never be complete. Somebody might ask,’Did I hear you say, pray for Nigeria?’Can anything good come out of her? Sure, God can turn our situation around if we pray for her.Besides, God commands us to pray for our country if we would experience true greatness and wealth.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
“May they prosper who love you!
Peace be within your walls,
and security within your towers(Psa 122:6-7)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be
made for all men, for kings and all who are in
high positions, that we may lead a quiet and
peaceful life, godly and respectful in every way.
This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight
of God our Saviour (1 Tim 2:1-3)
With the spirit of intercession, kindly join me to recite prayerfully the second stanza of the Nigerian National Anthem.
Oh God of creation,
Direct our noble course
Guide our leaders right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to know
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a Nation where peace
And justice shall reign.
