It is a shame one has to struggle,
through life trying to do right;
But it is not until their death bed,
Until the peak of hindsight.
At that moment perspective narrows,
Held captive by health restrictions;
One realizes what was most important,
As life bottlenecks to convictions.
Tears of regret for all the time wasted,
vesting interest in a material thing;
Sacrificing their life for fool’s gold,
one carries out what they did bring.
What they should have said to another,
Words they should not have let go;
Warm emotions hid behind a cold shoulder,
Letting a zealous temper blow.
Failing to take time to smell the roses,
Realizing now life was so brief;
Such a small window of time allotted,
For family brings the most grief.
So let your focus be on loved ones,
Don't let this be your sacrifice;
Its always best to put family first,
Payoff is well worth the price.
Is there a smile you can share,?
Hugs to make someone’s day?
Pay a visit with someone lonely?
spend time with a child at play?
Are there three words waiting,
those not said for a while;
Does it pang to say… I love you?
To a heart facing a trial
Many times pride is the enemy,
Do not fear being humble;
walls built to protect from pain,
can make relationships crumble.
All are given one chance at life,
Head the heart hear the head;
Try to foresee regrets being sown,
Those reaped on a death bed.
For some this time is long to come,
Yet not as far as it may seem;
So recognize what is most important,
avoid awaking to a bad dream.
