And,
the rough
goat
is
the king
of Greece
and
the great horn
that is
between
his eyes
is
the first
king.
[Daniel 8:21]
***************
It's a beautiful day along the Sea of Galilee. A soft spring breeze is creating crisp ruffles of white along the sparkling bluish-gray water. The smell of dead fish, rough wooden boats, and baskets of fruit which the townspeople are selling along the shore, fill the noonday air. A`ways up the hill from the sea, spring trees are blooming; their tiny white sweet-smelling flowers making soft low clouds above some of the townsfolk that have gathered to eat their lunches. Jesus and His disciples are walking along: crowds of people following them. Peter has come up beside the Lord; he has a question about the End-Times.
*****************
"LORD?"

[The Lord turns
and smiles.]
"Yes, PETER?"

(Peter rubs his nose, and sniffs; the tiny white flowers that are making such a pleasant scene for the lunch crowd, are wreaking havoc with Peter's delicate sinuses. He sneezes loudly, and then speaks.)
"Excuse me, Lord!"
(Peter sneezes, again. He pulls out a raggedy piece of
cotton cloth, and honks into it, loudly. Then he sneezes again.)
"SORRY!"
(Peter attempts to speak once more: his nose is red, runny and
swollen; his raspy voice sounds as if a muscle-bound man is holding Peter's nose between his thumb and huge forefinger. He
moans, and honks into the raggedy, stained cloth
again, loudly.)
"Uh, as I was SAYING......"

[Jesus pulls out a
clean cotton piece of
cloth out of His pocket,
and hands it
to His disciple.]
"Yes, PETER.
I'm LISTENING...."

(Peter accepts the
clean piece of cloth.)
"THANK YOU, LORD!"
(He honks again.)
"LORD?"

[The Lord gives
a gentle laugh.]
"Yes, PETER?"

(Peter snorts. Then he sniffs.)
"THINGS.....that You
were TELLING US...
about.....the other DAY?"

[Jesus looks up at the bright blue sky;
two small birds fly over His head; they
chirp, and continue flying.]
"What was THAT,
Peter?"

(Peter stuffs the
used cotton piece of cloth into
his own pocket.)
"You KNOW: those
THINGS concerning...
the FUTURE....."

[Jesus stops walking, to pick up a stinking
dead fish in the sand; He holds it for a moment, and then
throws it back into the water; the little fish swims away.]
"What ABOUT them,
PETER?"

(Peter snorts again: squinting out over the
sparkling water under the noonday sun, his runny nose all wrinkled-up: was that fish really swimming AWAY? Peter reaches up, with the hand holding the fresh cotton nose-cloth, to rub his one of his red, watery eyes. Then he blinks again, and continues talking.)
"WELL........
YOU said that when
the TIME COMES...."

[Jesus bends down to pick up another fish; He tosses that
back into the water, also. It, too, immediately begins to
wriggle and swim away.]
"Peter, when we get
to Martha's house,
I will ask her to boil
some dark-green
herbs in water,
and put them into
a cup for your to drink;
that will make you
feel better."

"THANK YOU,
LORD! THIS time
of YEAR,
I'm ALWAYS like this!"

[The Lord nods.
He smiles.]
"I KNOW.
Since you were SMALL."

"How'd YOU
know, LORD?"
(Peter squints out
at the sea, again. Then he sneezes.)
"ANYHOW.....when
the TIME COMES...
one person is going
to get TAKEN? And..
the other person LEFT?"

[Jesus looks out
over the sea, also.
For a moment, He is
quiet.]
"Yes."

(Peter busily honks into the
clean raggedy cloth
which the Lord has given to him.)
"But.......THAT'S
not very SPECIFIC!
Can You TELL US
something.....really.....
SPECIFIC?"

[Jesus bursts out
laughing. He bends
over to pick up another dead fish.]
"Like WHAT,
Peter?"
[The fish begins
wriggling in His hand.
He throws it into
the grayish-blue water.
The fish disappears under a
breeze-lapped wave: swimming
strongly.]
"Like.........."
[Jesus laughs again;
His eyes mirror the
midday sun shimmering over the
Sea of Galilee.]
"Such as........"
[LAUGH!]
".....Philadelphia is going.......
to win the World SERIES.......
in nineteen hundred...
and EIGHTY?"

"Phila...DELPHIA......?"
(Peter squints; his nose begins running, again. He turns around to look at one of his friends, standing behind him. Then he turns back to the Lord: his nose still running.)
"ISN'T......that one
of the PLACES of the
GREEKS.....
my LORD?"

[Jesus continues laughing. His disciples are now
all standing around Him, staring at one another.]

(Peter sneezes again: this time on John. John waves away Peter's raggedy piece of cloth, and shakes
his head irritably at Peter. Peter snorts again,
and rubs his swollen nose. He continues talking.)
"The GREEKS.....
are going to win the
WORLD.......?"
(Peter reaches up to
scratch his tousled
hair with his free hand.)
"But.......LORD! The
GREEKS haven't RULED over the world..
..in a long TIME! THAT would
take........a MIRACLE!"

[The Lord bursts out
laughing again. His
laughter can be heard
throughout the crowds behind Him.]
"BELIEVE Me,
Peter."
[LAUGH.]
"It WAS...
a...
MIRACLE."
*****************
Then
shall
two
be in
the field;
the one
shall be
taken,
and
the other
left.
[Matthew 24:40]
