Satan as the strongman sets on fire his own house and yet he himself is not destroyed, at least not yet. This is a mystery but consider this, that what men need today is the gospel. The gospel is the GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST! People need to be told that they are sinners, or rather, reminded for they know this in their heart of hearts. The gospel is a two edged sword that cuts straight to the heart.
"The word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
Suppose you were to come upon a man whose house was burning down and he was asleep. What this man needs is to have water thrown on his house if it were possible to extinguish the fire. The next best thing, if this were not possible, is to snatch that man from that house to get him out before he is destroyed. Is this not like snatching a brand from the burning that we read about in Zechariah 3:2?
You see, the gospel is concerned with setting men free from the clutches and power of sin and Satan. If I were to go to that man and talk to him about politics, art, entertainment, literature, world history, health or wealth. These are all cultural niceties which may be interesting and entertaining to people but not to somebody whose house is burning down. THEY DON'T NEED TO HEAR THAT MESSAGE! What they need is the gospel. The true gospel because there are many false gospels gone out into the world today.
How important is it, to get the right message to the right people? The apostle Paul saw it as so utterly important that in Romans chapter 1:16 he said, "it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first and also to the Gentile."
So often Christians get side tracked. They lose focus as to why they were put into this world and why they were saved.
The Christian is an ambassador for Christ. He's in a strange land. He's a pilgrim journeying through this wilderness. He himself must be faithful or he will never make it to the Promised Land. But on his way to the Promised Land,(to the Celestial City that John Bunyan talked about in Pilgrim's Progress) he must be a faithful witness of what Christ has done for his soul. He must warn men to flee from the wrath to come. He must let them know that their house is on fire and that they are being destroyed by sin. This is the urgent message for today.
