In a recent episode of Time magazine the actor Bryan Walsh suffocatingly laments about climate change and finishes his scene by saying “As we keep altering the climate, who can tell what else might follow into unplanned obsolescence?” which capped a minor tirade about winter disappearing.
This on the heels of what the media has dubbed “snowmageddon” in Seattle.
For years I have wondered why man is so obsessed with the idea that man has caused climate change or global warming or whatever it’s called nowadays. And for years I have wondered why this “idea” stays in the news. Seems to me every time a global warmer schedules a soap box session, they are forced to cancel because of cold weather.
Humans love to be responsible it seems. Responsible for all the ills of society and therefore responsible for passing responsible legislation. (Actually, man’s sin is responsible for all the ills of society but nothing we do can eradicate sin.) Our cars, our breathing our factories are the reason why temperatures are going up, despite the very iffy facts around that. Every now and then we read that flatulating cows and termites contribute significantly to global warming gases – but never in the same article that blames humans. Then a volcano erupts somewhere and it’s revealed that an erupting volcano emits more pollution in a day than all the cars on the planet do in a year…or something like that.
I wonder why humans are so quick to embrace sketchy facts and suspect hypotheses when the Truth has been out there for centuries. Less than 200 years ago Charles Darwin offered a dubious explanation for the origin of the species and suddenly it's gospel. Not to say that the God of the universe could not have used evolution to get things started but man in all his infinite wisdom has somehow used this unscientifically proven theory to push a mandate that man is more or less god.
How else can one accept man-made climate change if man is not god? In order for man to completely reverse a God-made climate, man would have to be god himself which is more or less what the global warmists and climate changers are ultimately trying to do, though they may not actually be consciously doing it. By “proving” man is so powerful that we in all of our limitations can change the earth’s climate (have you seen pictures from space? We are sooooooooo small) then we do not need to be responsible to God, who or whatever that may be. In fact, if we are no longer responsible to an Infinite Being than we can be left to our own devices.
And that is exactly what man is trying to do.
Never mind the fact that the Bible has been around for centuries and has never been disproven. Explain why a man’s theory in the 1800s can rapidly erase what was widely believed for eons. Better yet, explain to me why scientists were warning of a coming catastrophic ice age in the 1970s and less than 30 years later suddenly man-created global warming was going to wipe us out. Even better, what happened to the ozone layer disappearing in the 80s?
And perhaps even better than all of this – if cars are the reason why temperatures are rising how come temperatures weren’t rising in the 60s, 70s and 80s when Los Angeles had almost daily First Stage smog alerts during the summer. After LA cleaned up its act, now the temperatures are rising?
I always digress.
Digress: move off central topic. Oh so that’s what man has been doing all these years. Moving off the central topic of the Bible.
2 Peter 3:3-5: Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of the creation.” For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water.
The overwhelming evidence that a man named Jesus walked the earth, had followers, performed miracles, was crucified and then appeared to many afterwards demands a verdict. What are we to do with one Man who changed the course of history? How did the teachings of a Man catch like wildfire in a place so hostile to its beliefs and then transform the world? All of this for a lie? A myth? A fable?
Even in my own weakness when I say there has to be some other explanation I can’t get away from this not-so-famous quote from a very famous guy:
“So what you’re left with is either Christ was who he said He was – the Messiah – or a complete nutcase. I mean, we’re talking nutcase on the level of Charles Manson. The idea that the entire course of civilization for over half the globe could have its fate changed and turned upside-down by a nutcase, for me that’s farfetched. ~ Bono (the singer of some band that sold out stadiums worldwide the last two years.)
For me, man-made global warming, man-made climate change, man-made man is farfetched. Do you think it’s possible, just slightly ever so possible, that all this climate change is actually the work of God who is slowly putting His plan into place to restore the earth as it was in the beginning as the Bible has predicted? (BTW – the earth as it was in the beginning had no rain and resembled a greenhouse. God forbid! Not a greenhouse effect!)
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and they will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. – 2 Timothy 4:3-5 (widely accepted to have been written around the year 67.)
