Who does feel beaten up like a sick pup?
Who drinks the wine of a rotten grape cup?
Who is afflicted with multiple woes
From the top of his head to the tips of his toes?
Those plagued by Jezebel, spirit of control.
She is your enemy, she is your foe.
Her witchcrafts are many, her shamans not few.
She stirs a sly cauldron, and conjures a brew
Of bitter herb slander, the mandrakes of strife
For the medicine man that just kidnapped your wife,
The beautiful vineyard that Naboth did tend,
But Ahab did lust for her days without end.
Heavy and sullen and whiny and sad,
"Tortured by love" and in every way mad,
He envied the spiritual fruit of a man
Abiding in Jesus according to plan.
Alas the poor pastor who tended the vines
Knew not of the trap or the vicious designs
Of one whose devotion to Baal knew no bounds,
Who slaughtered the prophets through her gossip hounds.
Through fraudulent letters she set a bold snare
And via brash flattery brought Naboth there
Before vicious cobras whose doctrine did bite.
"We spin doctors know what is best, so don't fight."
"You say you're a Christian and set a high bar,
But you're just a hypocrite in a sports car.
You don't merit miracles or divine health.
Look at the way that you've squandered your wealth.
Surrender to illness; it's what you deserve,
A lesson brought your way by our learning curve."
And with many stones they condemned him to death,
Yet he preached the truth with his last dying breath.
"I know God is good and I know that He lives,
His yoke is not heavy, He freely forgives.
So turn from control and His truth don't deny,
Your heart He will heal if on Him you'll rely."
Now Ahab's the heaviness, she's the control,
Two spirits that wage war on your precious soul.
Through grief and self pity they cut and they slash,
Dividing the whole as their teeth they do gnash
With feverish wounds that can make a heart sick.
"It's just a flesh thorn" says their suffering stick,
As the vineyard it beats into one bitter herb
Of doubt and regret, for God's will it would curb.
But only if you and I yield to the lies,
For we have a choice; we need not compromise.
We can choose to trade heaviness for Jesus' praise,
Delight ourselves in Him and walk in His ways.
We needn't obey Satan's mindless control,
But by yielding to Christ we may all be made whole.
Diligent truth seeking, that is the key
Which opens the door that will set our hearts free.
