What The New Year Holds

What Does 2012 Hold For Us? (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

For I know the plans I have for you,Ē declares the LORD, ďplans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (NIV)

This was a message from the Lord to His people through Jeremiah the prophet when they were living as exiles in Babylon. They were far from their homeland, and far from everything that was familiar and dear to them. They knew they were there because of their own unfaithfulness to God, and they probably looked back daily with regret and wished that things could have been different. In a season when they felt they had no hope, the Lord spoke, promising them hope. When they kept looking back to the failures of the past, God told them He had prepared a great future. He had plans for them, and they were good plans. There are many prophecies and predictions for 2012 which have been released over the internet, and many of them speak of doom and gloom. Our Fatherís Word for the coming year is different, and I choose to believe Godís Word and not the word of man. I choose to receive the positive and powerful word of my Father as I step into a new year. We may not know what 2012 holds, but we know the One who does. He holds this year in His mighty hands!

I believe the Lord wants to minister to many of His precious sons and daughters who experienced tough times in 2011. Perhaps you faced many disappointments. Maybe you began projects which were never completed. Maybe you started the year out with visions and dreams which you have not seen fulfilled, or it could be that someone near and dear to you turned against you. You may be looking back over this year or years past with regret or sadness. Maybe you believed that God brought an infirmity, financial difficulty or misfortune into your life, but that is not true. It is the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly. There is no sickness, lack, strife or other difficulty in heaven, and none of these things come from the Father of the Heavenly lights (James 1:17) who only gives us good and perfect gifts.

Friend, this year is going to be different. This year is your year of breakthrough and completion. God has great plans for you! 12 is a very special number in the Word of God. There were twelve disciples, twelve tribes of Israel, etc. The number twelve crops up many times in the Old and New Testaments. It represents Godís perfect government. It is a product of 3, which is the number of the Trinity. The year 2012 has to be one of completion for you and me, and for the establishment of Kingdom and Godís government in our lives, work and ministry. You will see completion of things you began and were unable to conclude fruitfully, as you allow the perfect government of heaven to take priority in your life.

The plans God has for you in 2012 are good plans. His Word shows us that He has already released favor, goodness and mercy upon you. He has already released in the spiritual realm everything you could ever need to live a life thatís pleasing to Him, but how do we appropriate what is ours, and walk in it? Jeremiah gives us a clue.

1) Seek the Lord. Talk to the Father and call on His name. ďThen you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.Ē As you seek the Lord and His guidance in this new year, He will hear your prayer and listen to what is on your heart. He will guide your steps and show you which way to go. He knows the way you should take. He longs to hear His kids. He loves to have them knock on His door and come in to His chamber to spend quality time with Him. Resolve that 2012 will be significant because of the time you will spend in the presence of the Lord. The Holy Spirit calls you today to a deeper walk with Him! God promises that when we seek Him, we will find Him.

2) Receive Godís Word, stand on it, believe it, declare it. His Word is His plan for you Ė prosperity, hope, a bright future. The Word of God is powerful, and as we declare it over our lives and over our families, work, etc, it is fulfilled. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. What you speak with faith and force comes to pass, whether good or bad. So start declaring what you want to see happen during this year Ė declare health and wholeness, declare Godís Word of prosperity over your finances and relationships, His shalom peace over your home and your place of work. The Word is fulfilled when we stand on it, believe it, and declare it in faith. Daddyís mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness for those who trust in Him!

3) Expect this new year Word to be fulfilled. You can only expect good things from God when you know and believe that He wants the best for you. None of the disappointments, difficulties or dangers you may have faced this year were from Daddy God. It is the Thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly (John 10:10). God is reminding us from Jeremiah 29 that He has good plans for us. He thinks good thoughts about us. He has a hope and an amazing future for His kids, so live in thankfulness and worship always. There is so much blessing coming your way! This year is going to be good!

Dear friend, you are the very precious blood bought child of the King of kings. He loves you and has decreed a good year for you. Walk into this year in faith and in the expectation of Godís best flowing into every aspect of your life. May your dreams be fulfilled. May your relationships be healed and whole. May you walk in health and in His provision, experiencing exceedingly abundantly more than you had ever asked or imagined, in Jesusí mighty name, Amen!
