Blessed Is The Man Who Trusts (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river. And he will not fear when heat comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.” (NKJV)
This is a promise from the Father to His kids for 2012. It follows a warning given through the prophet Jeremiah to those who do not place their trust in the Lord; but for those who walk in faith and keep their eyes on the power and Word of Jesus, God is promising a heavenly insulation. They shall not be affected when things get hot. Whatever the state of the economy or the political scene, they shall continue to walk in His prosperity and in His shalom – the complete blessing of God. There are many who claim the name of Jesus but not all walk in faith and in His Word. There are many who want the blessing of God upon their lives but not many are willing to trust Him when faced with the unknown. The Father is telling us today that the life of blessing is available to all who trust in Him. His promise for 2012 is for all His kids who place their hope on His love and grace. God is trustworthy. His Word is true. He is a rewarder of the faithful. He is a fulfiller of promises. His love is forever sure!
So what are the blessings we can look forward to in 2012 when we place our trust in the Lord?
1) Well rooted, stable, secure and unable to fall. God promises a stability and security even though everything around is volatile and prone to change from day to day. So long as we feed on the eternal Word and keep our eyes on the unchanging One, His light fills our lives, illuminating the way ahead, and guiding us always, even in our day to day decisions.
2) Daily renewal and freshness. You are constantly fed from the inner source. You are a tree whose roots are spread out to receive water from the life giving river of the Holy Spirit. Whatever the circumstances, live in the confidence that His mercies are new every day, and in the joy of His love for you. Psalm 103:5 tells us that God renews our youth like an eagle’s. The eagle goes through a time of extreme difficulty during a phase of its life, where it loses all its feathers and claws and cannot even find food for itself. However through it all, its strength is renewed and it sprouts new feathers all over its body, until it is able to soar like a young bird, better than it ever was! Know that whatever difficulty you went through in the recent past, God has different things in store for you in 2012. He is renewing your youth. You are receiving new strength from those old challenges. You are a victor and an overcomer. God is on your side!
3) No fear because you are walking in faith. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and receive strength from His Word (Romans 10:17). Pray always in the Holy Spirit and strengthen your faith (Jude 1:20). Things could get difficult around us, and the economic situation may seem quite bleak as we listen to the news or hear what experts have to say. However, there is no room for anxious thoughts or doubts because your spirit is always fresh and fed, and your heart is on the face of the King! You are filled with heavenly faith! You are filled with thankfulness for His goodness and mercy in your life! You can live in peace. You can lay your head down to sleep knowing that God’s hand is on your life and His sweet protection covers you.
4) Always bearing fruit, despite the external circumstances. Jesus said to His disciples in John 15:5: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him bears much fruit.” Because our dependence is on the unchanging source, fruit-bearing is a natural outflow of living in Jesus. It is simply a result of the surrendered life. Jesus desires our lives to be productive and fruitful in every way, from our own personalities and the development of the fruit of the spirit, to the gifts of the Spirit with signs and wonders following. He wants to see fruitfulness and increase even in our work and our finances, and it is all the result of trusting Him and walking in communion with His Spirit.
Dear friend, this year may hold all kinds of challenges, but we can step into tomorrow without fear, and walk with our heads held high because the One who holds the future holds us in His hands. We can trust Him to take us through the waters and lead us to the other side. We can have faith in His Word and see it fulfilled in our lives. This year is going to be a good year because God is good and you belong to Him! You are strong, deeply rooted tree drawing life from the River.
May you live each day in faith, and may you bear good fruit right through this year, for the delight and joy of the Lord who loves you and lives in you, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
