Why Do You Read The Holy Bible? (Part 1)

To see a person holding a copy of the Holy Bible ought to gladden the heart of any serious Believer. It ought to be safely concluded that "he or she must be a child of God".
Going a step further to open and read it should make one, especially a saint of Christ, resolve that this fellow sitting to read must be interested in moving closer to the "author and finisher" of his/her faith.
It is sad to note that people hold copies of the Holy Bible every and are busy reading it for several reasons, even among the people of God.The motive behind it is very important.Apostle Paul is right to have sought the prayer of brethren that "...we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith." (2 Thess.3:2)
Therefore, let us consider seven reasons, among others, people spend hours daily to read the Holy Bible.
1.Errors and mistakes.People read the Word of God to look for errors and mistakes. The motive of most people is solely to identify those things that are not in order. An example is a typographica mistake. Some may be interested in "errors in the dates of events in the numbers in the Holy Bible.
A Pastor and News reporter was given a book to proof-read.His reply was, "I am one of those people who will continue to enjoy the book from a-z without spotting any errors and mistakes at all".
2.Condemnation.Another reason people read the Holy Bible is to seek an opportunity to condemn the Word of God.Closely related to the first point above, people who see errors and mistakes claim that they have enough evidence to condemn the Scripture saying that "if the Holy Bible were the Word of God,there would be no errors and mistakes" forgetting that human beings were ( are) involved in getting it into the present form the Holy Bible is.
It is sad to note that a new doctrine has crept in unnoticed into the church of God.This questions whether the Holy Bible is the Word of God or contains the Word of God? I was sad to hear this a few years ago from a young and dynamic minister of God.
The word 'Holy' has been tactfully taken away from some versions of the Scriptures and many devotional writings.
Thanks to God,"for the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."(I Corinthians 1:18).
3.Support for misdeeds. To seek a verse to support their misdeeds. This is another reason some people read the Scripture.A bigamist or polygamist will be quick to make reference to Kings David and Solomon.A drunkard looks for a verse to support his or her action.Such fellows are quick to refer to Apostle Paul's counsel to his son in Christ Timothy to take a little wine for his ailment.
4.Condemnation of others.People dutifully search the Holy Bible for the motive of judging and condemning others.Whereas,Jesus Christ says in Matthew7:1,
"Judge not, that you be not judged.
For with the measure you use, it will be measured back."
5.To twist it.Knowingly (unknowingly?), there are people who read the Holy Bible with the purpose of twisting the truth.2 Peter 3:15-16 reads,
15 "...and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him,has written to you; 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction."
6.To debate or argue. Some people are always looking for an opportunity "to prove" something. They turn every statement into a debate. They are ever ready to "argue it out". Titus 3:9-11 discloses
9 "But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law;for they are unprofitable and useless.
10 Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,
11 Knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned."
