It was something I couldn’t quite wrap my mind around. How can you deep-fry frozen dessert? Ice-cream will melt at the touch of an upward change in temperature so how does it retain its consistency? Out of curiosity, I ordered it when I saw it on the menu. I just gotta try this I thought, excitedly.
After a delicious scoop or should I say bun of ice-cream, I asked the waiter for the recipe. It’s quite simple really. The ice-cream is scooped unto an already frozen tray and returned to the freezer. The batter is prepared, I think flour, bread-crumbs, eggs and whatever else. Then while the oil is heating up, each ice-cream scoop is dipped in the batter very quickly and returned to the freezer. Once the oil is piping hot, the ice-cream buns are dropped in one by one until the batter is nice and golden. This take about a few seconds. Then voila, the fried ice-cream is served.
Sometimes before God releases us to do anything worthwhile, He takes us on a journey far away from our comfort zone and puts us in the most bizarre situation, just as the ice-cream is wrapped in batter…, bizarre! Then He takes us back to our comfort zone for a season to heal. Then wham! He drops us in hot oil and we’re screaming ‘Get me outta here‘. And before we know it He lifts us out and places us in a waiting area (on a kitchen towel to drain the excess oil) to drain us of every ounce of flesh. At the time when we can not glory in our flesh anymore, He presents us to a waiting public.
Slowly, they crack the outer shell and all of our inward goodness oozes out to bless somebody (some one’s palate). Welcome to the new you.
Are you thinking God might use you? Get ready for the hot oil but remember it’s only for a season. Jesus endured the cross for the glory that was set before Him.
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb 12:2

Really enjoyed this, Layi. You did a great job taking something very simple and using it to communicate a spiritual truth (and I learnt something about fried ice cream at the same time).
It was a much needed fresh take on being clay in the potter's hands or being in the refining fire, and that's exactly the sort of fresh thinking that catches a reader's attention. Good title too. Well done. This is the sort of short inspirational article that has good publishing potential. Keep it coming.
