Matthew 26:41
'Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak'.
(Jesus said this to his disciples in Gethsemane before he was arrested)
Often as Christians we find ourselves being tempted into sin by the devil, whether its going against God's will or falling into sin, there are many ways in which the devil tempts, but how do we resist this temptation. Simple, Jesus says watch and pray. For me in times of temptation I pray that Jesus will give me the strength to resist and overcome the devil, and you would be surprised on how Jesus can strengthen the spirit and the body so you can defeat Satan in his works of temptation. So my first advice is pray.
Not only is it prayer that removes temptation, but actually quoting scripture.
Matthew 4:3-5
‘the tempter came to him and said, “If you are the son of God, tell these stones to become bread”
Jesus answered “it is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but every word that comes from the mouth of God”
So what does Jesus do? He quotes scripture at the devil, and we should do likewise, because even in our weakness we can be strengthened by the power of scripture against evil. So let us stand strong in the lord and our weaknesses will be overcome.
For me when Jesus says 'watch' so that you won't fall into temptation, he is saying be wise and watchful. For example, if your friends or others are causing you to sin, then don't associate with them. Be wise and watchful.
But remember With Jesus all things are possible and all weaknesses are overcome.
Stand firm in the lord
God Bless
