Christ is born and WE too. Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. In the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem, we too are born in the hope of Child Jesus. Faith based on hope has been the backbone of Christianity. For more than four thousand years, people of Israelites were waiting for Messiah who they believed would liberate them from all bonds of slavery. It is with that hope and faith that Abraham lived the word of God. Throughout the Holy Bible we see every one living by the hope and belief in the great love and justice of God. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem it marked the birth of every believer.
The Gloria song of the Angels confirmed this birth in hope
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem Angels sang in joy. Luke narrates this saying, “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased’.” (Luke 2: 13-14) God is pleased with people who live in hope and faith in Him. If anyone has hope and faith in God he will be just and do acts of love.
Every act of love is birth and every evil of selfishness is death
Every time one does an act of love he brings hope into being, into reality. Every time one initiates an act of compassion and justice he is born in the love of God. Every time one acts in selfishness, hatred, injustice and fear it is death for him. Whenever he dies to these evils of selfishness, etc. he is born again in life. Hope is born alive in acts of love. God loved humanity and His love was born on this earth in human form to live with us and show us the way of life. Every time one does the acts of love and justice Christ is re-born in him.
Christ came to liberate but we prefer slavery of consumerism
Birth is liberation and death is slavery. Jesus Christ came to liberate humanity from the fetters of selfishness and other evils. He came to break the chains of oppression and bondage of selfishness. But modern consumerism has caused humanity slavery of selfishness and bondage. Materialism has caused only debt and slavery. It is the new form of slavery of economic crisis under which the whole world is reeling today.
Selfishness into slavery
Selfishness of materialism has caused only slavery. Materialism forces markets to purchase products produced by slavery and child labor in other parts of the world. It is this selfishness that has killed justice in every form and promoted environmental challenges, such as global warming. Not only in business, but also it has encroached every religion. Today even Christmas has become a materialistic event to promote commercialism and consumerism of selfishness. It is a mere show of selfishness without Christ.
Modern Christmas without Christ
Modern Christmas is almost a globalized business. Is there Christ in any celebration of Christmas? Then how can we expect a rebirth of love and justice? Is Christmas the birth of Christ? Are we born in Him?
