While waiting in the grocery's self-service check outs, I overheard this part of a conversation between two women regarding their Christmases past:
“A few years ago we’d become so hassled by Christmas that we decided to bag the whole thing and go to Florida (from St. Louis). We got caught in a blizzard in Kentucky and they closed the highway. We had to spend Christmas Eve in the gym of a school with a lot of other ticked off and frustrated travelers.”
“That’s awful!”
“We thought so, too. But something amazing happened.”
“A young couple with a newborn son also came into the gym. There was no room for them at the Inn. The night turned into a celebration for all of us stuck there.”
We get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. Many times we may just want to bag it all and run off for some peace and quiet.
God has interesting ways of reminding us what this season is all about. This woman and her family found the meaning of Christmas. They found their peace in a celebration in a snow storm.
Merry Christmas!
