There is a saying that mirrors don't lie! Well, I beg to differ!
When I walk into a dressing room and look at the reflection before me, I shout "Mirror You're a LIAR!" How many know what I'm talking about?
Ever go to a "Fun House" and stand before the mirrors that make you look distorted. Some make you look short and fat, others make you very tall and skinny (i like that one)! Regardless you know that the image is not real.
Well I also like to think the image is not real when I undress in the dressing room! Truly the mirror is not my friend but definitely my foe!
On a serious note, many of us struggle with looking in the mirror - we either cringe at our reflection because of a physical flaw or an inner one.
Many of us are NOT content with our physical appearance. Our hair may be dry or oily; our nose may be long or stubby; our eyes have dark circles or bags under the eyes; laugh lines; wrinkles; acne; big ears; skinny; fat; big butt or flat one; thunder thighs; chicken legs or big calf; big chest or flat; wide hips or squared; the list is endless. We are quick and keen in spotting our imperfections!
Some shy away from looking at the mirror because what they see is the face of shame; guilt; failure; hatred; and worthlessness from our past. It becomes a constant reminder because the voice behind the mirror persuades you to believe the lie that he whispers as you gaze at your reflection every day. He distorts your perception in order to keep you in bondage – never experiencing the true freedom of Christ!
Unfortunately we believed and agreed with the father of all lies and it's time to break agreement! It’s been far too long in which we have allowed the mirror to define who we are! It’s time to say NO MORE!
In the same manner we are quick and keen in spotting our imperfections, we need to be quick and keen in spotting the liar!! He is not your friend but your foe and it’s time to shout “MIRROR YOU’RE A LIAR” and speak the truth that breaks the agreement of lies:
We were created in His image (Gen.1:27)! We are forgiven (1 John 1:9)! We have been set free (Gal. 5:1-5)! We are new creations in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17)! We have worth and purpose (Romans 5:7; Jeremiah 29:11)! We are His Beloved (Song of Solomon 2:16)! We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-16)!! We are light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16)! We are daughters of a King (John 1:12)!!
Now look in the mirror and hear the voice of the ONE who sees what HE sees:
I look in the mirror
And what do I see?
The light of Jesus shining through me.
I no longer hide
Nor see my shame
That once ruled my soul with anguish and pain.
I look in the mirror and what does He see??

I see a reflection of Me!” ~ M. Rodriguez
