(Christmas Carol to the tune 'Rachel' - 'How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds')
The Angel of the Lord appeared
With glorious news He came,
‘The Saviour of the World is come
And Jesus is His Name.
His entrance, like the morning dawn,
Will make the darkness cease,
For on this day a child is born
Who’s called the Prince of Peace -
He’s called the Prince of Peace.’
Shepherds in fear and wonder gazed
As angels filled the skies,
With trembling joy they heard, amazed:
‘God, in a manger, lies.
The Saviour of the World is this,
Let fear be now no more,
As God has promised, His Name is
Wonderful Counsellor,
Wonderful Counsellor.’
From Eastern lands the Wise Men came
To worship and to bring
Rich gifts of Incense, Gold and Myrrh,
For Christ, the newborn King.
Guided and led, they journeyed far
As mile on mile they trod,
Obedient to the guiding star,
They sought the Mighty God,
They sought the Mighty God.
How sweet the Names of Jesus sound
In a believer’s ear,
As Christmas comes, let joy abound
And sing, with truth sincere -
‘Wonderful Counsellor. Prince of Peace,
The Everlasting One,
Your Government will never cease,
The One True Light has come.
The One True Light has come.’
Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the Government will be on His shoulder and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, of the increase of His Government and Peace there will be no end.
