Call to Unity
Perhaps one day we can pray together in unity,
all who believe in Jesus and have faith in the Trinity.
Coming together from all different Christian denominations,
leaders and church members all across our nation.
Jesus prayed before he died that we would all be one,
as He is in the Father, and the Father in the Son.
He prayed that we’d be brought to complete unity,
To let the world know he died for you and me.
He said they’d know we’re Christians by how we love each other,
yet we’ve built walls to keep us separate from one another.
Perhaps for one day, one hour, we can love as God commands,
and pray for forgiveness and healing in our land.
Jesus can make a way to take down walls that keep us apart,
if we seek his will and pray for unity with all our heart.
He prayed for us that we would be united in His name.
Do we need to question or understand before we find a way?
What would it take for us to come together in unity,
to worship the Father, Son and Holy Spirit who lives in you and me?
Forgetting whose right or wrong, letting go of fear and pride,
forgetting the cost, counting all loss, except that Jesus died for you and I.
Jesus weeps for His Body is broken, can you feel His pain?
I know I have not really felt it, do you feel the same?
We pray for Christian unity in our churches many times,
but do I pray it from my heart or only from my mind?
Jesus prayed before he died that we would all be one,
as He is in the Father, and the Father in the Son.
If this was so important that Jesus prayed it for you and me,
shouldn’t it be just as important for us who believe?
Together can we seek his agenda, for we are his disciples.
We read about forgiveness, love and mercy in our Bible.
Jesus said before we bring our gift to the altar,
seek reconciliation with our sister and our brother.
Though we want to hold on to what we believe is true,
knowing there are differences that separate me and you,
can we focus on the one thing we have that’s still the same,
we all form the Body of Christ and we all bear his name.
Can we join together for one day without finding fault or judging,
worshiping God together as one in love, respect and caring,
leaders and people from different denominations or will it be too late?
To be one as Jesus prayed, must we wait till we get to Heaven’s gate?
