We all carry scars
Of times long past
Breaks, rips and bruises
That all seem to last
Wounds still gaping
Continuing to bleed
As we stand before you
Expressing our need
But we are far from perfect
Outside and in
You don’t need our confessions
For you see everything
Our lies and our fibs
Our jealousy and pride
All causing wide cracks
Marking our insides
We are broken and frail
Faded and split
And none of our pieces
Will ever refit
We stand before you
Such is our state
Avoiding your gaze
As we silently wait
For reactions of hate
Disgust and distaste
For you to discard
And proclaim us a waste
But you lift us all up
And tilt all our chins
To look in our eyes
As the healing begins
“My beautiful children
Listen to me
Here what I say
Open your eyes and now see”
“No matter how broken
And scarred you appear
I shall never leave you
I will always be here”
“Right by your side
Guiding you through
For you don’t have to be perfect
For me to love you.”
