Who is God and Who do you think God may be are entirely different questions, however as pathetic the condition is of them who do not believe God's existence so also are those who even though believe in God's existence, however have a wrong conception of who God is and what He can do.
"Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” " John 4:12 (NKJV)
Is He greater than the saints He himself created, helped and led them to sainthood is the question that the Samaritan woman is asking Jesus.
To get a public opinion about Himself Jesus once asked His disciples about Who does the world think He is and this is what they replied....
"When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Matthew 16:13-14 (NKJV)
However when He asked them personally their opinion about Himself, Peter volunteering for all proactively replied thus...
"He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven." Matthew 16:15-17 (NKJV)
The reality of God can only be had by a revelation from God Himself and then shall we truly understand God as He is, so awesome, glorious, worthy of all praise, love and honor.
Our finite human mind's capability and our rational conclusions based on presented facts and figures will never lead us to understand God beyond someone who is inferior to Jacob, and maybe similar to John the Baptist, Elijah or Jeremiah.
To know God in His reality we need to leave the complex way of searching with our own ability and switch to the easiest or childlike faith of waiting upon the Lord and let Him reveal His awesome glory to us.
For David, God was above all, when he was young, God was stronger than the bears and lions, when David rose to be a King, God became greater than all His enemies, however David always kept God as He is, the greatest of all.
However the most important thing for us, Who do you think is God in your life? is He Great, Greator or the Greatest.
A true answer can be had only after the revelation which can be had only after having waited on God in prayer, which is actually the best thing we could ever do.
As the presence of light not only displays its awesomeness and reveals everything around us clearly and makes them visible as they are, it also helps us see our actual state of life, so also when in the light of God we would know Who God is, we will also be rightly seeing and understanding the world around us and also know who we are in reality.
Thus all our calculated conclusions are attempts in vain, what we really need to do to know the truth is to wait upon the Lord to know Him and ourselves and the world.
