Joseph dreamed and told his brothers "We were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and stood upright; and behold your sheaves gathered round it, and bowed down to my sheaf. " Genesis 37.7
Again he dreamed the "Sun, moon and eleven stars were bowing down to him." Genesis 37.9
He knew that he would rise to prominence.
Soon, his jealous brothers sold him as a slave to traders going to Egypt, and he became a slave in Potiphar's house. I wonder if he thought in his heart, "This is part of Gods master plan for me". Perhaps he did if his faith was strong enough.
Then he was falsely accused by Potiphar's wife of trying to force himself upon her, and was jailed. Did he still see God's hand in his circumstances? If he had faith he did. There he met Pharaoh's butler and baker and interpreted their dreams accurately. The butler was restored as Joseph interpreted. Still Joseph was not helped by the butler right away. In Potiphar's house and in prison, Joseph's administration and organisation skills were increasing. Time was not wasted.
Two years later Pharaoh had dreams. The butler said to Pharaoh that Joseph was able to interpret dreams. So finally Joseph was freed from prison, interpreted Pharaoh's dreams and even gave him advice on how to prepare for the next 14 years. Seven good, seven harsh.
Joseph was now made second to Pharaoh. For his advice, skill and interpertation. God had placed Joseph above his brothers and father, all of whom would soon come to live in Egypt. In a most roundabout route, with many trials and preparation on the way, Joseph's dream was realised. God was actively orchestrating every event.
It is worth meditating on God's dreams. God's given me some. Hopefully you too. Till they happen I will still ask him to bring them about, trusting him along the way. As well as testing them to ascertain whether they are of God. If they are, then God will bring them about like he brought Joseph's about. Even if they are taking a long time, I still thank God and express expectation. Even if the route is long and circuitous it is worth the wait. Even if I don't know the path ahead, God does. He has it planned carefully.
