A Child's Prayer
One Child’s Prayer
By: H. R. Robinson
The grandmother sat
and watched the child
Prepare herself for bed -
Such a sweet, sweet sight,
She said to herself;
As the little girl bowed her head.
And, with hands folded,
On her knees,
Humbly, she lifted her praises to Thee.
Thank You, God, for Jesus -
The child said aloud.
These first lines of her nightly prayer,
Remembering that God
Had sent her a Savior
To watch her and see to her cares.
Thank You, God, for Jesus
She repeated again,
And for mommy and daddy too;
For grandma and grandpa;
My brother tom,
And my teddybear Baxter -
These too, are all gifts from You.
Please bless us and keep us.
Make us strong,
Keep us healthy,
Set us free.
And, then dear Lord,
Make pure our hearts,
So that one day we can be with Thee.
