Christian Living
God put the tree of life in the middle of the garden, and also there was the tree of good and evil. Genesis 2.9
The metaphors are clear to me. Within me is God who is like the tree of life. Everything about Him and to do with Him is life.
The tree of good and evil is the other choice I have living on earth. It means the world, evil, sin, self, Satan etc.. You get the point. Perhaps it is called the tree of good and evil because people who live this way know how to cover up their evil by making it look like good.
There are many worldly and religous people who fit that deceptive description. Jesus warned "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits." Matthew 7.15 At some point you will be able to work out who is true to God and who is not. God always sees through to the motive of the action. Some people hide their motives but at some point they will be found out.
Even the godly can be fooled temporarily or some are, but sooner or later the godly will see through the worldly.
Really the choice is follow God or the world. Jesus said so plainly when he remarked , "You cannot serve God and mammon." Luke 16.13 Following God is one path requiring total loyalty to God, and the other one is loving the world, accolades from man and loving and doing everything with unholy motives.
Discipline your life and conform to God. It is freedom of the highest sort. The best possible life liveable on earth. Conforming to the world is spiritual deadness, and uninteresting.
