This morning I read about 10 pages of the Bible quietly, then 10 out loud. It was time for a walk so I headed for the countryside, taking routes with least people.
It was a morning for prayer. On the walk were red cherry leaves amidst the greens of other trees. I needed time alone with God. It is like a fix. If I don't get that time, I am not at peace. So I prayed for my family members, myself, relatiives, close friends, and then also things which God brought to mind during the week.
Never underestimate the power of prayer. Prayers prayed today could be answered thousands of years away. Prayers now for future generations could be answered by God. Jesus prayed for his disciples in a similar way. "I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one." John 17.20 Some of that prayer is being answered now, and some will be answered in the future. That is long-term praying with a reach of over 2000 years.
When I have a lot of free time I can pray more broadly. " A liberal man will be enriched." Proverbs 11.25. When I pray more widely, God will enrich me faithwise at least. Today is one of those days. Sunday, a day off work, the most peaceful, least stressful day of the week. It is easier to cover more topics in prayer when you have more time.
During the week when I have less time, I pray fewer prayers, and essential ones mostly. On days like today, I can pray up all the things that God has brought to my attention lately and all that He brings to my mind while praying.
May God bless you generously as you pray what you ought. Prayer is always a pleasant time. May your prayer times be enjoyable.
