Filet gumbo’s mumbo jumbo flying
Rubber boots overflowed at the brim
Ripping up cat tails in ditches, carried home
Like a bouquet of flowers for mom, dreaming
Child days spent under bright moon and sun
And old dog chasing her heart out behind the car
Don`t know how she got left behind but Dad saw her
“My god, it’s the dog!” he said as clouds of dust
Settled, and we let her in and headed for the beach
She must have known that’s where we were going
One day dog posed for me and let me take her photo
Back in fiery stirred up teen days of ignorance
Chili-peppered young gal shooting off sparks
Then one day striking a match in the dark
Saying goodbye in a cubicle room starkly grey
Dad whispered each of our names and saw angels
Ushering him somewhere afar we couldn’t see
Bookmarks placed where pages were ripped out
Curios of life kept, diced, sorted, seared
Talking to the One who knows stars by name
One day you let life live and be what it is
Jumbled jambalayas & thanksgivings
