And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacobís thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What [is] thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Genesis 32: 24-29;

Jacob was one man whose life was full of ups and downs; several phases of his life were characterized with troubles, struggle, wobbling, disappointments, betrayal, shortchanging and lots more. His lifeís journey was far from being a smooth! Notwithstanding, considering the latter end of Jacobís life, we discover that he had a glorious end. The secret is not far fetched: God gave him another beginning when it mattered most.

As established in the above scriptures, God gave another beginning to Jacob at a very critical moment in his life but not without a price! Firstly, the scripture reveals that he was left alone that night at Jabbok. The life of Jacob had been hitherto filled with a lot of distractions which made it impossible for God to gain his attention or speak to him. However on that fateful night, Jacob made a very important decision; he pushed away all distractions and sought the face of God with all his heart. For us to have another beginning which will bring the much needed turn around to our lives, we must be ready to be alone with God. Enough of distractions of unholy alliance, questionable relationships and worldly pursuits, because as long as we are not ready to part way with things that separate us from God, the stories of our lives may not change!

Jacob had always trusted so much in his ability which made him believe he could struggle it out with the Angel of God, but in the process, he lost his limb! Thatís what may likely happen to us each time we attempt to struggle our ways through the journey of life. Many of us like Jacob have always believed in our own strength and ability to work things out on our own without involving God. The truth is that we can never succeed or make it through lifeís journey without the involvement of the Almighty God. Jacob hitherto had walked the paths of life alone, but that fateful night, God became his partner in the journey and that was the end of downfall for him. The fresh beginning God gave to Jacob that night at Jabbok brought a great turning point to his life; the divine experience he had with the Angel of God turned his lifeís story around completely.

When God gave another beginning to Jacob, his name changed! The spiritual surgical operation God performed on him necessitated a change of name which signifies change in identity. When God gives you another beginning, your identity is bound to change. May be people have hitherto known you as a failure, nobody, barren, or good for nothing, the new beginning God is giving you now will change your identity completely. You will be called and addressed with a new name, a glorious name. Just as everything about Jacob changed as a result of that single experience, God is set to cause a great change in your life.

It does not matter what your story has been before now; it does not matter how many times you have fallen and failed; it does not matter how much of your life has been spent in pains and sorrows, the Almighty God is set to give you another beginning that will make you forget all your miseries and woes just as He did to Jacob at Jabbok.

You must understand that life is not one stretch smooth journey; there are stopovers, detours and many interceptions on the paths. Life indeed is in phases, and every one of us at each moment of our lives, goes through different experiences which are peculiar to the phase we find ourselves. The journey of life is not smooth; sometimes we may stumble and fall but that does not mean the end has come. Donít ever write yourself off or accept the lies of the devil that itís finished with you. It is not finished with you yet; your present state is not the end, it is only a bend! You are coming out alive and strong. The Almighty God will give you another beginning. Donít give up and drop out, your salvation is near. Whatever the situation is, you can reach out for the gentle arms of the Almighty God and He will come to your aid as you turn your heart to Him.

Be ready for another beginning!
