The Evangelist Part 2

Hi beloved we spoke about the biblical definition of an Evangelist and we clarified that Philip is defined and classified as an Evangelist by Luke in Acts 21:8. Then Luke shares how Philip went to the city of Samaria and they witnessed the powerful ministry of Philip as he preached about Jesus and the people saw miracles, deliverance from demons and healings that the lame experienced as they walked and they believed in Jesus then they were baptized in water (See Acts 8:5-12).

Luke Shares More Encounters

The Apostle Luke went on to share more information and testimony of how Philip, Peter and John operated in the ministry (Acts 8:14-25) when they received word that the Samaritans received Jesus the Apostles in Jerusalem sent Peter and John to Samaria so they may lay hands on the Samaritans so they may be baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is another gift that is not mentioned by Paul in his list of Spiritual Gifts and Ministry Gifts in Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4:11.

The point of mentioning it now is to narrate the story in chapter 8 in the book of Acts. I will teach about this gift of laying hands on believers to receive the Holy Spirit in the future and share powerful testimonies along with it on how God anointed me to minister in this gift. But now I want to go deeper into the Evangelist Gift in this article.

Being a Sensitive Minister

Luke went on to share a wonderful testimony of how God used Philip in the Evangelistic Ministry to minister to the Ethiopian eunuch the entire story is in Acts 8:26-40. The purpose of me sharing it is to go deeper about the sensitivity factor that all ministers should develop if we desire to be effective for the kingdom of God.

1. Sensitive to Angels- one of the key factors to being an awesome Evangelist is developing your human born-again spirit to hear Ministering Angels and the voice of the Holy Spirit.
The bible said that an Angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is desert. So he arose and went (Acts 8:26-27)

Philip was ultra sensitive to the voice of the Ministering Angel.
In order to be that sensitive one must be focus on the things of God and meditating on the word being prayerful and maintaining a clean conscious because if we are thinking too deeply on our everyday issues and the problems we have (which are many) we will not be open and sensitive when God or an Angel speaks to us.

Discerning the voice of an Angel is as simple as clearing our minds of all thoughts that bury us with cares and legitimate concerns. If you are a deep thinker like me you probably think a lot about 10 or more things that you need to do that day or throughout the week.

The other battle we have in our mind is lusts if you were a playboy or girl before you were saved thought s of old flames, pornographic images about potential encounters come to mind like the shouldíve, couldíve and wouldíve if you had another opportunity to do it again or guilt because you failed God and you think He hasnít forgiven you because you remember it as it was yesterday when in fact it happened 10 years ago or whenever it did.

Mind control is extremely important when we desire to hear from Godís Holy Spirit and Ministering Angels. We canít think about other issues while we are trying to hear from God about the next ministry mission He desires for us to accomplish.

When Paul told Timothy to do the work of an Evangelist (1 Tim.4:5) Paul explained in detail How?
Paul said keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an Evangelist, discharge or fully perform all the duties of your ministry (1 Tim.4:5 NIV/AMP)

We are going to have hardships-broken relationships, arguments, personal issues and family or work related issues. However, being calm, cool and steady as the Amplified Bible states it- with keeping our heads focus on our calling as ministers and upcoming Evangelist; we have to deal with the issues when they arise with godly wisdom and go on despite the hardships and do the work of an Evangelist; and continue to be cool headed to deal with other things as they require our attention without running away from them. But prayerfully asking God to assist us as we do His will and wait on Him to give us the next mission to preach (See Acts 13:1-5)

Angels and Evangelist

Angels seek to help ministers connect with the unsaved so they may hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and be saved here is a classic example with Philip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-27) and we also have the story of Peter in Acts chapter 10 and Peter shared the story again in Jerusalem in Acts chapter 11.

Without going too deep into the topic of Angels (which I will teach sometime in the future) I must inject some teaching about Angels to collaborate with the Gift of an Evangelist. In this story an Angel told Philip to go to a certain road because the Angel wanted Philip to come into contact with a caravan carrying an important politician from Ethiopia (a treasurer.)

When God speaks to us through an Angel or the Holy Spirit you can know for sure it is extremely important and you will be speaking to someone important. Peter spoke to a high ranking officer in the Roman Army. Philip spoke to a Treasurer from Ethiopia. Paul spoke to Kings and other high ranking officers. (Read the entire book of Acts)

The writer of Hebrews said ďAre not the Angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?Ē (Heb.1:14 AMP)
Angels know before we do who God has planned to save at the moment or within days. When we read the story of Cornelius in Acts chapter 10, Peter was in the city of Joppa, it was a 2 day journey on foot from Corneliusí house. The Angel appeared to Cornelius in an open vision and said Cornelius your giving heart has come before the Lord and now send your men to the city of Joppa to fetch Peter so he can explain to you all you need to know about this life of Godís kingdom (Acts 10:1-6)

Peter later writes in his letter sayingÖbut unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the Angels desire to look into (1 Peter 1:12 KJV)

Cornelius received the open vision of an Angel that instructed him to get Peter.
Peter is in Simons house praying and sees a vision that was symbolic and wakes up from the trance to meditate on the vision thereís a knock on the door and the Holy Spirit said go with them donít doubt I sent them (Acts 10:1-20)

Let me break-down the supernatural working of God; The Holy Spirit supernaturally open Corneliusí eyes to see the Angel by the manifestation of the gift of discerning spirits, but the Angel spoke to Cornelius not the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit manifested a vision thru a trance to Peter and spoke to him in the Vision and after Peter snapped out of the vision and began meditating on it because it was so symbolic the Holy Spirit spoke to Peter to go with the servants of Cornelius without doubting about it because the Holy Spirit sent them by way of instruction thru the Angel.

Do you see how the Holy Spirit and Ministering Angels work together to get people saved?
Learning to Discern Voices
One of the biggest question I hear from Christians is How can you tell God, or the Holy Spirit, or an Angel is talking to you and not your own imagination? To answer this, you have to know a lot of scripture- but let me make simple for you to develop a sensitive ear and acknowledge who is really talking to you.

Practical Application of hearing from God

1. The Voice of the Body- There is 5 senses; taste, touch, see, hear and smell. The body will say to us Iím hungry, tired, horny, hot, warm, cold, uncomfortable or comfortable, sleepy or restless.

2. The Voice of the Mind/Soul- There is the thoughts, the imagination, the reasoning powers, the understanding, the memory bank, then the emotions that come into play when we think too deeply about whatever we rationalizing be it godly or perverted.

3. The Voice of the Human Born-again spirit- there is the spiritual consciousness of being sensitive to Godís Holy Spirit who came to live inside of you, and it will always side with scripture the law of God. (See Romans 2:14-15/ 7:22-24)

4. The Voice of the Holy Spirit- Its authorative powerful and will rebuke, correct and instruct us from within our human spirits. You will pick up a witness or premonition (Romans 8:14, 16/Acts 27:10) Paul perceived that the ship will be damaged. Jesus said the Holy Spirit will speak (John 16:7-13)

Angels speak as if someone is right across from you sitting in the living room couch having a conversation. So the voice comes from outside of you.

The Holy Spirit speaks inside of you as though you had someone else inside your body talking to you aside from your own human-spirit.

Your human spirit will always make you feel guilty (your conscious condemning you) why did you do that that not right when you mess up. Demons piggy-back on the emotional response to the condemnation and accuse you further.

The demons will always try to belittle the work of God or anything you try to do for God. And make you feel worthless and weak.

If you are not spiritually mature your mind will take you back-in-the-day when partying, clubbing, sex was the thing for you. Youíll remind yourself how good that liquor tasted, the weed, the drug, and that girl or guy or orgy was and imagine- if you wasnít a Christian how you would be an untamed sex maniac and drive your sex partner all night. And later youíll feel uncomfortable about thinking about the past.

If youíre religious and never encountered any of this supernatural stuff you will religiously explain away the supernatural and hold on to the principles of the spiritually dead church you attend (no offense intended just laying out the facts.) Youíll mentally dismiss all supernatural experiences; Instead of developing your faith by reading the word of God over-and-over (Romans 10:17).

My Testimony

I saw many Angelís by a visions, dreams and hearing a voice outside of me as if he were sitting next to me.

Several times I was falling asleep pass the time I was to leave for work and I was awakened by an Angel who grabbed my pants legs and pulled my leg off the bed. A few times as I would doze-off reading scripture I would hear Manny and I thought my wife was calling me but it was the Angel who called me to get up and keep reading and I would catch an amazing revelation from scripture.

A month ago I was walking from doing laundry around the corner at the Laundromat and I heard the Holy Spirit inside of me say speak to that young lady and tell her that Iíve been calling her since she was child but she keeps running away from Me. I said hey you may think Iím crazy but God just told me He has a calling on your life and she got emotional and said yeah my grandmother told me but I didnít really pay her no- mind. So I ministered to her for 30 minutes and prayed.

The Holy Spirit continues to talk to me about many things. We will continue in my next article about the way God speaks to us. May God bless you to continue to grow into the Evangelist He desires for you to be, in Jesusí name, amen.
