It was in Jerusalem on the first of May
The smallest gnat ever, was born on that day
Not making a sound,
The little gnat opened his eyes and looked around
Seeing his Mother and Dad looking profound
Dad said, your name will be Amos, How does that sound?
All the other gnats clapped really loud
As they looked at Amos, they became spellbound
We come from Egypt, the city Cairene
And he's the littlest gnat we've ever seen
His proud parents stood up to say
Don't worry about his size, he'll be OK
In just ten days, Amos will fly away
The other gnats said he'll have a long life
Due to his size, he'll not have much strife
Amos being a REALLY small guy
Got laughed at by all the young fruit flies
Look at Amos, he's so small
To them Amos began to pall
They sure didn't care about Amos at all
He didn't fit in with any of them,
Amos knew he was different, as tears filled his eyes
He knew the difference, was just in his size
Amos, he heard his dad say,
Are you ready? today's the tenth day
Amos looked up, as he wiped his eyes
He didn't want dad to see him cry
Amos, dad said, now you can fly
Today, and from this point on,
You'll fly hither and yon
Amos flapping his tiny wings
Thought to himself, what will life bring?
I'm not like the others, who were born this spring
They laugh at me and call me names
I'll show them, I can fly, as he spread his wings
I can be a pesky fruit fly
So up and away, Amos did fly,
Flapping his wings, he waved good-bye
Up and up, way in the sky, Amos did fly!
Determined to be the best fruit fly
The other young flies laughed out loud
Saying, Amos will never make his parents proud
Amos flew away far from the crowd
Don't worry about me, he yelled out loud
Off he flew and soon was out of their sight
When he saw a multitude of people he could incite
They were listening to a Man talk
What could be saying, Amos thought
The man held their attention,
But they look so distraught
Amos wanted to get a closer look
I can listen from that little nook
Next to the Man who is speaking
I must find out what those people are seeking
Off Amos flew, he quietly landed
In the growing fresh grass so green
Not thinking for one moment, that he had been seen
The man spoke the following words so serene
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees,
Hypocrites!
For ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men:
For ye neither go in yourselves,
Neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Telling the crowd about judgment, mercy, and faith:
These ought ye to have done,
and not to leave the other undone.
He said woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees
Amos thought, what could he mean
So he leans closer to hear what's being said
When one of the men standing real near, spoke
Jesus is right about the scribes and Pharisees
They think their so much better than the rest of these
Amos thought for a moment about the young gnats
How they had made fun of him before he had left
These scribes and Pharisees sound like the gnats
Putting me down with out a kind word
You'll never be anything to make your folks proud
When all of a sudden, Amos heard these words
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Jesus looking at Amos as these words were spoken
Amos's heart felt like it was broken
A tear came to Amos's eye
Jesus had seen him, Amos hadn't been sly
Jesus had seen him as he flew by
Amos felt so very proud, Jesus had used him, to teach the crowd
Amos thought, all this time I was a mess
But I am important, I am a success
Jesus loves me, Jesus doesn't care whether I'm large or small, Short or tall
Jesus love's us all
