All along I thought life was my own doing
I had made it here, I could make things happen, open doors
Prove my worth, get here and there, scoop up desires
Take it by storm, strive, become, gain, compete
For something or nothing, fame, fortune, no explanation
Just do it, turn the switch on valleys of shadows
Take things down, uproot, rebuild seasons, peak energy
Rise, fall, 'barometer' life's rising empires between heaven and earth
Chase sun sets, measure time, everything, nothing, stretched out
Flat-lining prayers as static as bad hair days, hitting ceilings
Bouncing back, pumping megatons of iron-clad solutions
Faith trudging bone-weary, like an old beach horse dragging Irish moss
And by some mercy along the shoreline, a viewfinder found my grip
Shifted, tugged me back to ‘here', to a child’s simple happy dreams
To life’s teddy bear giant hugs, to standing small in grace
To living without attitude, with gratitude and real-i-tude
To eyeing a wild-coloured lure, a silvery reel, fly-fishing with God
To hearing a roaring, laughing shout, a hurrah’ing ‘Welcome back’
And resting in still water green meadow places at the heart of it all
