Children's do commit mistakes, parents do know this and give them small punishments and also keep away from them for a very brief moment, however later only to hug them and love them all the more.
"For a mere moment I have forsaken you,
But with great mercies I will gather you. " Isaiah 54:7 (NKJV)
When after the moment of discipline, the angry mother say's 'I'll not speak to you anymore" and goes to another room, the child follows its mother saying "Mumma please speak to me, Mumma please speak to me", for the moment of separation is much more painful than the small punishments.
God knows our feelings, He understands us better than anyone, He understands & knows what we are going through and He has plans to deliver us.
As the mother later hugs her child and consoles it and loves it even more so does the Lord tells us in the verse above not to worry, His anger will last only for a moment, but His love forever.
"For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for life;
Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning. " Psalms 30:5 (NKJV)
The best friend we can ever find in our life is the Lord God Jesus Christ, Who genuinely loves us, Who genuinely disciplines us and Whose love will never fail.
