I have talked about Satan and some of the evil he is. This has been a very hard thing for me to write about because weather you believe it or not, Satan doesn’t like anyone realizing that he does exist. Or that there are ways that he can’t touch those who belong to God. I don’t like to write about evil or the one that is evil, but to resist sin we need to understand where it can come from and the results of letting sin enter our life. In the Bible we are shown many times that Satan is involved in the lives of the human race. I am not going to show you all of them but they are there for you to find on your own. Satan takes many forms and has some amazing abilities, which makes it even harder for us to resist his ways.
I would like to begin where we first meet up with Satan. Or should I say Adam and Eve meet Satan. In the book of Genesis we see that among his abilities is the ability to change form.
Genesis 3:1 NIV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman,” Did God really say, ‘you must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
We see in this verse that Satan has taken the form of one of the animals in the garden, and he is able to talk to us. Through this ability, he plants the beginnings of doubt and desire into Eve’s mind. In the next verse, we can also see his ability to use the things we know against us.
Genesis 3: 2,3 NIV
The woman said to the serpent, “we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
(serpent) but God did say, “you must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.”
Isn’t it amazing that Satan knows God’s words, and he uses them in forms that are familiar to us, and then adds to them for his benefit?
Genesis 2: 15 – 17 NIV
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “you are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”
This passage in Genesis 2: 15-17 is what God had told Adam. There was nothing said about touching the fruit.
Satan knows that if he can get Eve to just touch the fruit maybe even hold it without dying instantly, then he has opened a door because then doubt about God’s command will become planted in her mind. Maybe Satan took his suggestion a step further. He could have picked one of the fruits himself and maybe was tossing it in the air like a ball showing Eve that nothing was happening to him.
Genesis 3:4,5 NIV
“you will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Have you ever held a peach in your hand? Smelled its aroma? Gave it a little squeeze to check ripeness? Maybe at this point some how Eve now has the fruit in her hands and touching it didn’t kill her like Satan had added to Gods command. So now she is holding it, smelling it, and nothing has happened to her. Genesis 3:6 tells us that she saw the fruit was good for food and was pleasing to the eye. Now it has become an object of desire.
Verse 6 says “ and also desirable for gaining wisdom. So she ate some of it and when she didn’t instantly die, she gave some to Adam. Then both of them had their eyes opened. Their gained wisdom made them ashamed of who they were and how they looked. They learned to fear. They were afraid of God who had made them and loved them.
Satan knew that if she would just touch it he had her and the next step for him was easy. He used doubt and added words to get Eve to eat the fruit. The Bible says she gave some to her husband who was with her and he ate it. Maybe he too heard the same words the serpent said, and seeing Eve touch the fruit and maybe even take a bite and not fall dead, he too had the confidence from Satan that he wouldn’t die.
Satan is a master of word manipulating and he does know Gods words of truth.
Now let us look at Satan at work in another life. This happens many years after the garden and he is still trying to get man away from God.
Job was a man of God. He believed in God’s existence, his protection, his blessings in his life coming from God. He believed God could do anything. Job lived in a time when people believed that bad things happened in people’s lives because of sin. Satan walked heavily with these people because these seemingly simple thoughts were the very door Satan used to control them.
If you have never read the book of Job, I wish you would take the time to read it. It is a book full of the very heart wrenching aches, we still feel today. Yet we get to see in the book of Job, he survived, and because of his faith was healed and over came Satan. Job became more blessed of God than he was before.
In Job 1: 6,7 we see that there seems to be no boundaries to what Satan might try to do.
Job 1: 6,7 NIV
One day the angles came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “from roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.”
I believe God knew where Satan had been and he knew he had an agenda or he would not be standing before him now. So God seems to open the door with a little bragging. Such as a proud parent might do about their child.
Job 1: 8 NIV
Then the Lord said to Satan, “have you considered my servant Job? There is no one of earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
Satan of course takes the opening and taunts God a bit.
Job 1: 9 – 12 NIV
“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has and he will surely curse you to your face.”
The Lord said to Satan, “ very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”
Then Satan left the presence of the Lord.
Can you imagine the satisfied smirk on Satan’s face? He is real sure of himself and he has worked hard to grow the desire for wealth, and the hatred that arises in us with the loss of possessions and loved ones.
Satan rallied and wiped out all of Jobs wealth, and while Job was still reeling from that news, came the news that his family was together and disaster struck again. (We might consider this a Natural disaster because of our science, but I feel it shows that Satan can control the elements) A mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It fell on them and they are all dead.
In Job 1:20 we see that Job began morning his losses yet he says the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, may his name be praised
With all this sorrow, Job still loved God and praised him. Job did not sin by charging
God. We know that it was Satan who was causing the loses in Job’s life. By God’s permission, but keep in mind that God did not remove all of his protection. He told Satan that he could not touch Job.
Again Satan goes before God.
Job 2: 3 NIV
Then the Lord said to Satan, “ have you considered my servent Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without reason.
Satan declared that Job had had enough troubles in his life and saw that God blessed him through them, that he had no real fear that God wouldn’t do the same again. But Satan is angry now and says that Job has not experienced the fear of personal death. The strongest fear it seems for most of us is our death.
Job 2: 4-6 NIV
“Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “ A man will give all he has for his own life. But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
The Lord said to Satan, “very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.
Satan left God’s presence and began work on Job. He caused painful sores all over him. Not a part of his body was left untouched. Satan as we see here can control disease to his benefit and I believe he still continues to use disease today to weaken our faith in God.
Job still did not curse God, so Satan brought in accusers to try to plant doubt in Jobs mind. These were people in Jobs life in whom he likely respected their opinion
How many of us could endure such things and still reply; shall we accept good from God and not trouble?
Satan used Jobs wife, his friends, his neighbors and respected community leaders to add doubt to a man already weakened by illness. They encouraged him to give up on God if he wasn’t going to admit to some sin in his life that was causing all of his problems.
If we hear something over and over often enough, it becomes as truth to us. These people were selected by Satan to convince Job that he was doomed and might as well give up.
Yet through out it all Job stood firm. Since there was nothing else that God was going to allow Satan to do to Job, Satan was the one who left. At this point God stepped back in and confronted those who were used by Satan and made them aware that their thinking and teaching was wrong and they were required to atone for twisting God’s teachings.
In Job 42 you can read the many blessings Job received from God. Job never did turn away form God and God restored Job and Showed him and all those around Job his power over all things, even Satan.
Satan is very powerful, wise in the ways of human. He is deceitful, a liar and he twist words or adds words and feeds our desires. Satan watches for us to become weak because often that is when we will believe anything. Even when Satan give us convincing lies. Satan is very much a part of this world and he can control the elements and disease of this world. We saw that in Job. Sin is very prevalent in the world and Because of this God instructed his creation (humans) how to obtain forgiveness, but human kind keeps turning away from what we know is right. God told us in the beginning he would send a Savior and God always keeps his promised.
God sent us Jesus to live with us, experience all the things here that we deal with in our lives. Jesus was baptized in Matthew 3:13, then we see him going off into the desert alone.
Jesus did have company with him in the form of the Holy Spirit. There, Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights. He was at a physical weak point, and now Satan steps in to try to claim Jesus. If He can get Jesus to turn from God, he has won the greatest victory of the world and in the kingdom of God.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “ It is written ‘man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple, “If you are the son of God, “ he said, “Throw yourself down for it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
Jesus answered him, “ it is also written, “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
“All this I will give you, “ he said, “ if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him. “Away from me Satan; for it is written; worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”
Then the devil left him and angels came and attended him.
Satan tried to deceive Jesus by quoting Gods word to him and twisting it to his advantage. Jesus also knew Gods word and hung onto it and used it as a weapon to refute Satan’s words.
Then Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms to rule over, with great lands and riches, but to get them Jesus had to worship Satan. Again because Jesus knew the word of God, he saw through what Satan really wanted and refused him backing up his decision with Gods own commands.
When Satan gave up on Jesus, he made new plans to try to destroy him. Satan increased his influence on the people and his demons tried to expose and humiliate him. But Jesus had control of them also. When Satan left, the angels came to Jesus and attended him.
Satan had been building up the Jewish leaders subtly so as not to be noticed. It was becoming more obvious as time went on; by the way they changed the laws to give themselves control over the people
Jesus began showing people Gods Power by healing and forgiving sin, but the real big slam came when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. It was one thing to teach about God to the Non –Jews, but to do something so great that even devout Jews were beginning to follow him: that was to much. So Satan began fueling the greed of the Jewish leaders. He showed them they were losing control and the only way to get it back was to destroy Jesus.
John 12:9-11 NIV
Mean while a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.
Satan had truly infiltrated a religious group that was supposed to be representivies of God. Without them even realizing Satan had began to control them with their desires for power. Control was the main issue for these leaders and they had it and felt it and desired it to the point of doing anything to keep it. Even kill. God was no longer part of their lives. They were living lies and were using the rituals of Gods people as a disguise to their own means.
Satan did at one time have access to God and heaven. In Job, we see him conversing with God about Job. The name Satan means accuser. He does his work well here on earth. He seeks the weak in faith and attacks them like a wild predator. God could no longer allow Satan access to heaven. Satan’s power of persuasion was so good he had convinced one third of the angels to turn from God and follow him. It is believed this battle took place at the time of the Birth of Jesus.
Revelation 12: 7-12 NIV
And there was a war in heaven, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
But he was not strong enough and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient serpent called the devil or Satan who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to earth, and his angles with him.
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:” Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of God, and the authority of his Christ for the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony, they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and sea, because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.
Is Satan still angry? Very much so, because as his time of control over the earth grows shorter, he intends to take as many people with him as he can. He has control over the physical realm of this world. In Job, we saw that he controlled the elements, such as the storm that killed Jobs sons and daughters. We saw Satan cause disease in Jobs body.
We also saw him try to control the minds of people through the suggestion s from other people he already has influence over. We also saw in the Garden of Eden, and when Jesus was in the desert that Satan took Gods own words and added to them and twisted them to his benefit. One thing we do see is that if we belong to God, Satan can not touch us spiritually unless we turn form God and make that choice our selves. That is why Satan tries so hard to beat down those who love God. That is also why God in his love for us fights so hard to keep us safe from Satan. God is very aware of what things we can stand up under an often when we become overwhelmed he takes us home
Satan is going to use everything at his disposal on us if he thinks it will weaken us to the point of turning from God.
Death is a really big tool for Satan, It is not the ones who die that he works on at this point, because he either won them or God took them home. The ones left behind are often weakened by loneliness, confusion, anger, and sometimes this builds hatred, which Satan can feed until the person is doubting God, and themselves to the point of listening to people around them which lead them away from God.
Remember, if we have accepted Gods mercy and forgiveness, we belong to God and God will fight for us. He doesn’t want his children to enter the fires of eternal death.
Satan’s power over us is as limited as it was with Jesus and Job. Except he can harm us physically just like Job, but if our name is written in the book of life he can’t touch us spiritually.
Revelations 13:7-8 NIV .
He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them, and he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast-all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.
This passage refers to the disciples who spoke out for Christ after the resurrection and lost their physical life to us who are alive here and now on this earth.
There is nowhere in this world that we can hide or be free of Satan and his workers. However God does promise us peace and comfort and help to resist Satan. Even in the death of loved ones. Satan tries to accuse God of deserting us. Remember, God is with us and our physical death spares us from further persecution of Satan and we are released into Gods arms. This sounds really wonderful, but sometime this happens in ways that those who are left behind can’t understand why or how God could let death come in this fashion.
We aren’t in charge of our own death. Like Job, God determines the time and the means of our death. Sometime, God allows our release into his arms through what we feel is bad situations. Satan uses depression, fear, and loses to convince us of our unworthiness’ to live. God Fights Satan for the names in the book of life. He never gives up on us even when we see no future. Sometimes our choices are wrong but through Gods great love comes our salvation. Once we have become his adopted child we are his forever.
Titus 3:11-14 NIV
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and Godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, egar to do what is good.
It is through us that God reveals himself to others. Our actions and reactions to difficulties are always seen by those who need to know God and are seeking him.
Satan was cast out of heaven to the earth, and we see that he does have power in this earth. We also see that there are limits to his power. Satan couldn’t force Eve to eat the fruit; she had to make that choice. Satan did his best by creating doubt and desire in Eve to sway her choice to his side.
He did the same thing when he was trying to turn Jesus. He tried to get Jesus to give into his desire for food. Satan tried to create in Jesus a desire to be a ruler in this world. He also tried to get Jesus to jump from a building, which could have killed him. Remember Jesus had been placed in a mortal body susceptible to damage.
Maybe Jesus knew God’s protection wasn’t from a physical death and Satan tried to eliminate him this way. But notice God’s protection. Satan couldn’t do anything to Jesus that Jesus didn’t choose.
Satan seems to be the leader of evil, so what happened to the angels that were cast out of heaven with Satan?
They became Satan’s workers. They became the demons of this world.
Matthew 8:28-29 NIV
When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. “What do you want with us, son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
The daemons had once been angels in heaven so they knew and recognized Jesus as the Son of God. They knew they could not harm Jesus and so they accused him of wanting to torture them before their time to be cast into the eternal fire.
I see in this verse that they have no doubt in them that God will condemn them and Satan to eternal death in the fires of hell.
Revelation 20:10-14 NIV
And the devil who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and false prophets had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
God told Satan, the day he was cast out of heaven that it would include all who chose to follow him. That also includes not only the angels but any person on this earth who makes that choice also.
Revelations 20” 14-15 NIV
The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Have you made your choice yet?
If you choose Satan everything he promises you is only temporary because in the end if you haven’t chosen to follow God your name won’t be written in the book of life and your reward will be with Satan in the lake of fire.
Matthew 8:38 NIV
If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the son of man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.
This verse tells us that we must chose what Satan offers us in this world or believe that what Jesus and God promises us when this world is finished. Our choice will bring us to heaven or condemn us to death in the fires of hell.
Satan was active throughout Jesus ministry, trying his best to divert people from God.
Jesus had the ability to recognize Satan in all his forms. In John 13 Jesus is with the disciples and he tells them that one of them are going to turn from God and become Satan’s. After sharing this information the disciples wanted to know who it will be. They could not see Satan without help.
John 13:25-28 NIV
Jesus answered, “it is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, Son of Simon. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.
By the betrayal of Judas, Jesus is captured and tortured. He was taken before Pilate because the Jews had no right to execute anyone.
So Pilate came out to them and asked, “what charges do you bring against this man?”
“If he were not a criminal, “ They replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”
Pilate said, “take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”
“But we have no right to execute anyone.” The Jews objected.
This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled. Jesus’ truth of who he was was reviled to Pilate.
Pilate asked Jesus if he was the king of the Jews.
John 18:34-37 NIV
“is that your own idea,?” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
“Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied.
“It was your people and your Chief Priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
Jesus replied,” my kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.
“You are a King then!” Replied Pilate.
Jesus answered, “you are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.
Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
In these verses, Jesus talks about heaven and how he was born here, to die for this world. Remember in heaven the angel Michael and others fought to protect God and Jesus and Satan and his supporters were cast to the earth. The ways of Satan had gotten so bad that even Jesus had often been accused of breaking Jewish laws of the Sabbath. Remember Jesus followed God’s laws of the 10 commandants, not those set by man.
Because of these laws, man had no chance to get to heaven. Jesus was to become our sacrifice. We would no longer be required to offer sacrifices on altars. All we have to do is have the faith that Jesus is the Son of God and because of this he was raised from the dead.
Acts 1:3-5 NIV
After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Isreal?”
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes and a cloud hid him from their sight.
Jesus told them he was going to heaven, but they had work to do yet and he was going to send them the Holy Spirit who would live in each one of them and guide them to others who needed to hear that Jesus was born, died and they were the witnesses that he lived and was taken to heaven.
Through our own belief in this death and resurrection we too can become victors over Satan and eternal death.
The Apostils began their ministry as directed by God and guided by the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2: 17-21 NIV
“In the last days, God says, I will Pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, Blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood. Before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord
And everyone who calls resting on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
This passage promises us that if we ask forgiveness of our sins, the Holy Spirit will guide and remind us of God’s promises which are far greater than anything Satan could ever offer.
We all have a sinful nature. It is easy for us to follow the ways of this world. It has created desires in us that we have turned into addictions. Things we have to have or believe that we need have become Idols to us, things to seek and worship. Most of us want that great job, to be rich and do what we think we want. We want to have possessions better than every one else’s. There is the desire for beauty, long life; these are things we think will bring us happiness. These are also assurances that Satan exists in our lives to get us involved in his world.
Acts 2:1-2 NIV
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
This verse tells us that Satan and his followers are very much still here and active.
Ephesians 6:10-15 NIV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the Spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you maybe able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand, stand firm then , with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the spirit and on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request. With this in mind be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
We are given the armor to protect us from Satan and resist his evil ways. However like the clothes we put on when we start our day, we must choose God’s armor or the deceptions of the world.
We are told in the end of that passage that we should pray. Talk to God; share our fears, needs, our thank yous, and desires. We can pray anytime, any place and we should pray for others and their needs as well. God wants to hear from us.
Colossians 1:13,14 NIV
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Satan is in this world and will offer to give us anything that he thinks will cause us to follow him. He made similar offers to Jesus. He as much as told Job through Job’s wife and acquaintances that if he turned from God he would be healed. Which I’m sure was something Job wanted badly.
We are a feel good people. If it feels good, looks good, or will benefit us then just accept it or do it. Don’t think about the results of your actions. With thoughts like that, we can see Satan is working over time to give what ever we think will turn us from God.
Revelations 20:1-3 NIV
And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.
He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan and bound him for a thousand years, he threw him into the abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended
Then in Revelation 20:7-10 we are told Satan is released and once again returns to his old ways and tries to take over God’s people again but this time God takes care of Satan and his cronnies for good.
Revelations 20:7-10 NIV
They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil who deceived them, was thrown into a lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Satan was over come with the birth of Jesus. Satan and his followers were thrown out of heaven. Satan thought he could control death, but Jesus demonstrated with the raising of the priest daughter, the widow of Nains son, and Lazarus, that God alone had total control of life and death. God further sealed it with the turning over of his son Jesus as a sacrifice for all the sins of mankind.
Satan thought he had victory over God with the death of Jesus. But God brought his son back to life and showed him to the disciples and any who would see. Then he lifted Jesus to heaven.
Revelations 21:1-5 tells us that God is going to be with us, He is going to wipe every tear away. There will be no more death, or morning or crying or pain. We will get to live with God forever free from Satan.
To receive the right to eternal life with God and Jesus we have to believe that Jesus died for us and have faith in God’s promises of life. God promises us a life free of pain and sorrow. Satan only gives us the things of now and soon they disappear. We get to keep nothing.
Remember, there wasn’t a demon that Jesus couldn’t silence, drive out or destroy. None could harm him.
Being born human and inheriting the consequences from the Garden of Eden has given us choices to make. These are very real life choices.
The first choice is weather or not to follow Satan with the realization that we will also follow him into the lake of fire.
Revelations 20:15 NIV
If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Our other choice is to follow Jesus, and have eternal life with him in a place that is pain and sorrow free.
Romans 6:3,4 NIV
Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Romans 8:16,17 NIV
The spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. If indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Galations 3:26-28 NIV
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew, nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Galations 4:4-7 NIV
But when the time had fully come, God sent his son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of his son into our hearts, the spirit who calls out,”Abba Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.
Romans 6:22-23 NIV
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal Life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The following scriptures were only a few of the promises of life from God. There are many more written in the Bible, God’s word of truth.
God loves us and wants us to live for all eternity with him.
The only sure thing the followers of Satan have is that they will be condemned with him to the torture and death in the lake of fire. Remember Satan couldn’t hold Jesus in death, which demonstrate that God is stronger that Satan, so he can’t free himself from the lake of fire when his time comes.
God loves us so much he gave us a way out of sin by his son. And Jesus is so positive of our reward in heaven that he tells the disciples and us, that we will have a place in heaven.
John 14:2,3 NIV
In my father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Jesus gives us a glimpse of heaven and lets us know he is coming back to bring us home.
John 14:6 NIV
Jesus answered I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.
There has been a lot of scripture in this chapter, but I felt they were some of the most important ones for us to know. Verses, that let us see Satan for who he is, and God for who he is. Having read these scriptures you must make choices for your life.
You cannot follow Satan for a while then follow God for a while, switching back and forth as it pleases. They both require your full commitment. They don’t want to lose you. Please remember, that one can only offer you the here and now, and more suffering. The other (God) offers you the here, now, and always.
The choice has always been yours and only you can chose for yourself. The question is whom will you choose?
