Did Your Net Come Up Empty?

Luke 5:5 “But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”

As the crowd gathered around, Jesus chose to board Peter’s boat and teach the people from there. All day long Peter listened to Jesus teach the people but soon Peter was to experience just what Jesus was teaching.

Peter had toiled all night and caught nothing, and then all day while he listened to Jesus he washed and repaired his nets. He was probably tired and unprepared for a carpenter to tell him where to put his nets.

Today as it might have been back then, it is an unspoken rule; you do not tell a skilled fisherman how to fish. They know all the right bait to use, all the right fishing holes and when to fish them. So when Jesus taught Peter in a language a fisherman could understand He told Peter to put his nets into the deep water and when Peter obeyed Jesus; he pulled in a huge catch so much it almost sank the boat. Peter then realized he had just experienced the power of God. (Luke 5:4-11)

When Peter obeyed Jesus command Jesus was able to then reset Peter’s priorities from catching fish to catching men. Jesus took Peter back to the place of defeat and brought forth something good. He does this is our life today. Perhaps we have been dealing with a problem for a long time and keep failing miserably because we have been dealing with it by our own strength instead of the Master’s, throwing our nets in empty places. Jesus will not allow us to abandon a situation but will help us learn from our failure and experience the difference when He is in control. Maybe the next time you are experiencing failure, rethink your thoughts, you might be on the brink of a revelation from God.

If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
