What Remnant Are We

What remnant are we,
encased in materialism
and supernova dreams of
success and glory,
and all those things moths and rust do corrupt?

Like a pearl,
entombed in the oyster,
who, created for glory,
is hidden,
our light wanes
in the dark sepulcher of prosperity.

Mouths opened wide,
we are filled
but unsatisfied,
consuming all that’s vanity,
too full for “bread of life” or “living water.”

Let us starve
and thirst,
embracing poverty of soul
above opulence of life,
till, emaciated enough of worldly goods,
we finally savor Words of Life.
