Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
-JOHN 8:1-11.
The story of the adulterous woman we read about from the above passage is a reflection of what God does in the life of any condemned sinner who chose to come to Jesus. She was caught in the very act of immorality, and the provision of the law was death by stoning. This shows to us that every sin a man commits exposes him to satanic accusation (for satan is the accuser of brethren), and God’s judgment (for the soul that sinneth must die). The people who brought her to Jesus to seek His opinion about the provision of the law concerning her case were sinners themselves (all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory). Their consciences condemned them!
When Jesus lifted Himself up, He could not find those accusers again. They have all gone! When a person comes to Jesus with a sincere heart of repentance, God will forgive all his sins, redeem his soul from death, nullify satan’s allegations against him, chase away all demonic manifestations like sicknesses, oppression, sorrow, curses and so on. Then God will expect him not to go back into sinning.
The enemies were present to destroy this woman with accusation and death; Jesus was there to save her with love, mercy and life. The kind of love Jesus has for you will not allow him to destroy you for whatever reason. He prefers to save you. The only order Jesus gave to this woman was that she should ‘go, and sin no more.’ That is the same order he is giving to everybody including you. But if a person neglects this command not to sin again, and go on sinning, Jesus will not stand for him again as He stood for this woman. He will then be exposed to enemies’ attack. He will die in his sins and go to hell. May you not go to hell in Jesus name. Jesus loves you and He wants to help you in any way you desire His help.
